The speech was well written and touched upon the points you'd expect. But I don't think it was delivered that well. You guys never seemed to think Obama delivered a speech very well and was just relying on the teleprompter. I feel the same way about Trump tonight.

The one thing I'll give him credit for was he didn't seem to go off topic - sticking to the speech probably was a wise move.

I can't speak for everyone here, but there is no doubt that Obama was a natural at delivering a speech. It was his strongest quality that caused his ascent to the presidency. My critiques of Obama was the substance of his speeches. Obama ultimately hurt the Dem Party overall on 2 points where it came to his speeches: 1) He espoused many ideas that were contrary to most middle class Americans in "fly over country" and 2) His words did not match up with his actions over time - "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" is the phrase I would apply to Obama in this case.

Trump is not a natural orator like Obama. However, he has a charisma about him that helps him to share the substance of his speeches quite effectively. When Trump lays out a vision, he legitimately tries his best to make it happen. That's a lot more than I can say about most politicians we've seen from GHWB thru Obama.

I agree, Obama cultivated a rock star personality based on theatrics. When he didn't stumble over what the teleprompter was showing him he was indeed very eloquent. He couldn't deliver quite so well when he had to ad-lib though.

Absolutely by design. Bloomberg has an ad about trump being an "out of control" president. This speech was delivered in a very carefully measured manner. Like I said in the early part of the thread, this was a giant "Bless Your Hearts" to the dem party.

She began early in the speech dividing the papers into small batches. She planned the theatrics from the beginning. What a loser.....

It played to her base and maybe even those who favor the squad. Childish? yea Political? of course. It will also be forgotten soon as they will all be outraged at the acquittal tomorrow.

Not a chance. Pelosi gifted EVERY Republican running in 2020 with the perfect visual to describe their opponents in the election. This will be all over tv for the next 9 months.

She was probably also mad because she put her hand out to shake it but he ignored her (or missed it, I don't know). But what could she expect. It's like when I was written up and had to face a fire chief and at the end I told him "this is an awkward moment, am I supposed to say thank you at this time". It's the same thing. She just put up the articles to impeach him did she expect him to fake an amicable relationship. Oh, Fort Bend,( amicable means having a spirit of friendliness; without serious disagreement or rancor).

Lol

Just catching up, well done Ollie, well done.

Ha! No, it will not be forgotten. It is the most outrageous and partisan act ever seen at a SOTU Address. It will be brought up every year at every SOTU, and studied by political science classes in universities across the nation. Although Pelosi has had a long political career, the image of her ripping up the speech is her political legacy. It will be part of campaign ads across the nation. And, if the GOP takes back the House in November, dims will point to this tantrum as the event that fueled their failure.

That was a fantastic, uplifting speech... it had a couple of VERY strong "F Off" moments for Bernie, AOC, and the other Socialists in the group.

10/10

Next up, acquittal. 04-cheers

In the words of Ron White: "It's gonna be a good day, tater."

Well written and conceived. Trump's delivery was very sub-par (and low energy).

And the part with Rush Limbaugh was incredibly mawkish (which means sentimental in a feeble or sickly way), and takes away from genuine moments of emotions such as immediately talking about the 2 year old born at 21 weeks right afterwards, or the Tuskeegee Vet (who deserved the Medal way more than Rush IMO), or the Military dad reuniting with his family.

Sorry but with a mom passing away from Parkinson's last year, I will never get over Rush Limbaugh making fun of Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's.

Nancy Pelosi didn't do herself any favors but she's not going anywhere in California.

Sinema's reactions were interesting - I bet you she votes to acquit.

Sub par? That's an interesting take. 03-lmfao

I think maybe it was a deliberate lower key approach than typical.

Gidley said that before the speech. Trump was intentionally going to be low key. Didn't say why.

Maybe give the Dems some rope and let them hang themselves.

Trump has been doing that since day one. It's worked. Trump was low key on purpose, IMO, to show he's already moved past the impeachment farce and focused on past success and future plans for the nation. I think it was the right strategy in that people are sick and tired of the impeachment nonsense.

It amazes me she didn't stop to think how this would look to independents. Absolutely boggles my mind.

I guess when you wash down some Zoloft with a few highballs you forget or just don’t care about what your body language is communicating. All night long it was like she was using her car keys to clean out ear wax while interviewing for a job.

She is nuts or is an old recidivist drunk. Of course the two are not mutually exclusive. There should be a 25th amendment applicable to members of Congress.

Terms limits would solve the problem.

They don't care about independents. They're still hanging their hopes on one day in the near future being rid of the electoral college and getting that majority rule "f the rest" power. She cares about her base and her base only. First the impeachment, and now their actions during the SOTU have solidly shown the American public that it's all about team over country and they don't actually care about Americans, but care about power.

She lives primarily in DC now, so the only piles of human feces she has to navigate while walking thru the capitol are Schiff and Nadler.
