RE: Trump SOTU Volume 3
You know this speech was effective as CNN has switched back to coverage of Iowa and the results that are coming in "any moment now" instead of a speech that is less than 1 hour old

Well written and conceived. Trump's delivery was very sub-par (and low energy).
And the part with Rush Limbaugh was incredibly mawkish (which means sentimental in a feeble or sickly way), and takes away from genuine moments of emotions such as immediately talking about the 2 year old born at 21 weeks right afterwards, or the Tuskeegee Vet (who deserved the Medal way more than Rush IMO), or the Military dad reuniting with his family.
Sorry but with a mom passing away from Parkinson's last year, I will never get over Rush Limbaugh making fun of Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's.
Nancy Pelosi didn't do herself any favors but she's not going anywhere in California.
Sinema's reactions were interesting - I bet you she votes to acquit.
Sub par? That's an interesting take.
I think maybe it was a deliberate lower key approach than typical.
Gidley said that before the speech. Trump was intentionally going to be low key. Didn't say why.

Now you know why Trump was purposefully low key. Trump goes over the top when he can riff with his audience. Tonight he knew he could calmly rip the Dems a new one, but that any excitement on his part would have been spun on the evening news as him losing his cool. The funny part here is that the media was primed for somebody to lose their cool and Pelosi stood out!

nothing better than watching a post-menopausal ding-dong lose 'it', then find 'it', only to lose 'it' again.....

She began early in the speech dividing the papers into small batches. She planned the theatrics from the beginning. What a loser.....

It played to her base and maybe even those who favor the squad. Childish? yea Political? of course. It will also be forgotten soon as they will all be outraged at the acquittal tomorrow.

Trump should be doing one of those rallies on Wed. night. That would be quite smart.

The one thing I'll give him credit for was he didn't seem to go off topic - sticking to the speech probably was a wise move.
I can't speak for everyone here, but there is no doubt that Obama was a natural at delivering a speech. It was his strongest quality that caused his ascent to the presidency. My critiques of Obama was the substance of his speeches. Obama ultimately hurt the Dem Party overall on 2 points where it came to his speeches: 1) He espoused many ideas that were contrary to most middle class Americans in "fly over country" and 2) His words did not match up with his actions over time - "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" is the phrase I would apply to Obama in this case.
Trump is not a natural orator like Obama. However, he has a charisma about him that helps him to share the substance of his speeches quite effectively. When Trump lays out a vision, he legitimately tries his best to make it happen. That's a lot more than I can say about most politicians we've seen from GHWB thru Obama.

Not true... I never said Obama couldn't give a speech, the man was a great speaker, however, if you took the teleprompter away, he fumbled his words and would say uh alot.
