The situation may indicate the power of NIL to lure top recruits in lieu of receiving employee pay from pro leagues.

The Peach Jam is 7/20/21 through 7/25/21. Fingers crossed.....

Yep. Without NIL, Duren was likely headed to the G League Select, or to Australia. Follow the money with him, in particular.

With NIL, it's a booster money fight between Kentucky and Memphis. If Cockburn transfers to UK, I think it's pretty certain we get Duren. IMO.

And IF that happens, it's the last piece to our puzzle to be as good as we can be this coming season. Especially with Larry Brown on board.

I'm thinking this Twitter account is throwing **** against the wall. Doren hasn't made any reclass announcement as far as I know and in fact, has said he would make that decision, yes or no, after Peach Jam... And nothing else on where he's going post High School.

I'm thinking you don't look hard enough. Travis Graf is the Rivals scouting analyst for Kentucky and Louisville. Bryan Moss runs the Memphis Rivals website.

Both have put in 'futurecast' predictions for Memphis. It's public if you have a Rivals subscription.

It's public in the Daily Memphian now, too:

Duren was already high on Memphis before the Tigers added Brown to the staff, and Brown’s hiring only improves their chances of landing the 6-foot-10 center.

Multiple analysts from Rivals logged FutureCast picks Thursday, July 8, for Duren to commit to Memphis. The Tigers could continue to build momentum on that front after Brown’s visit.

https://dailymemphian.com/section/sports...t-comments

Another Rivals recruiting analyst I can't name also said privately that he thinks it's Duren to Memphis. I do agree that M-Town is likely just a recruiting groupie, but those other guys aren't.

As for there being no word on Duren reclassifying, again you are incorrect. Zagoria reported a month ago that Duren is expected to reclassify. Giannotto retweeted it, and noted that Penny said likely no more transfers, but maybe a reclass, and MG mentioned Duren as perhaps being that target.

And of course Duren is going to extend the suspense until his formal announcement sometime after Peach Jam, to generate more PR and build his brand, like they all do these days.

So. The guy is throwing **** against the wall. He doesn't know to the extent he claims when he uses absolute language --- saying Duren "will" commit to Memphis and he "will" reclassify. Implying that he has some sort of special knowledge that's not available to the rest of us... all he's really doing is making an educated guess and if and when it actually happens he'll pin the tweet at the top. Otherwise forget it. Those guys are all over the internet and all over Twitter.

Did you even read the last post?

Did you see the tweet above where Adam Zagoria says Duren is expected to reclassify?

Did you see the quote in italics where the Daily Memphian posted that several Rivals recruiting analysts now predict Duren to Memphis?

None of those have anything to do with that guy you are griping about.

The other Hendricks twin, Tyler, has now been rated as a 4 star on ESPN! That means both Hendricks twins (UCF commits) are now 4 stars. Taylor is rated as the #52 player in the country on ESPN.

While you guys post about 4-star recruits, I can confirm ECU will have enough players to field a team next year.

Added South Carolina transfer Alanzo Frink.

I've been extremely harsh towards Dooley, but I want to be fair to him here. I think the 3 transfers we added in Tabbs, Jackson, and Frink are solid additions. Do they make up for the loss of Gardner and add the level of improvement needed for him to not deserve to be fired? I kinda doubt it but maybe it's not impossible.

Yeah, they are nice, but it would be so much better if we were adding them to some core instead of starting from scratch.

You've gotta be a big time Kool-Aid drinker on Newton and Suggs to think there's a core there. In the alternate reality where you were adding those 3 to Newton, Suggs, and Gardner I'd be leading the hype train, but every single one of those 5 have real question marks

Newton-was honestly terrible last season after a strong freshman season. Which one is closer to the real him?
Suggs-probably the least "questions" but is there a real step forward he can take or is he just a glue guy?
Tabbs-He did not look the same coming off that knee injury that caused him to miss an entire season. Will he ever be the same player he was prior?
Jackson-was honestly pretty awful with Arkansas. I don't think it was injury related so I'm arguably the most confident in him as he was a legit solid player every other year prior.
Frink-Was very productive in limited minutes his sophomore year but missed basically the entire season with what has been described as a really bad case of Covid. Will he even ever be able to play a starters workload?

Probably need the best outcomes (best outcomes in this case meaning ability to match their good past performance) on at least 4 of those guys to have a real shot at big improvement, because you can't count on the rest of the roster for much. TRW is a below average PG who can't shoot. JJ is a "sharpshooter" who's a career 31% 3 point shooter on plenty high enough volume to judge. Ludgy is bad, and the 6 Freshman aren't highly rated guys that you can reasonably count on being high level AAC players day 1. If 2 or so are average AAC players year 1 that wouldn't be a horrible outcome.

RE: ***Basketball Recruiting Update Thread***
jj miles, tremont robinson are also back..that is a good core coming back by the ecu standard

will ecu replace gardner? no... but sometimes what seems like a negative could actually be a positive.. the best games for ecu werent when gardner as going off but when you guards were going off...losing garden could force the initiative for them to step up game in and game out .. and no offense but Gardner was not good on defense, but you need him on offense, so you had to accept his poor defense..you miught be able to retool the defense now

im not that crazy about suggs but jj miles and Robinson have extremely high cieling next season if they have solid 3P%..
newton has high potential but im not sure it comes next season.. has to work on his game, defense, shooting..etc..
and this isnt accounting that one of your freshmen ends up special

starting:
-- tabbs- touted transfer - junior
-- robinson- former touted juco- senior
-- miles- 6'7 shooter/good defender - super senior
-- fink- south carolina transfer with respectable per40 stats- senior
-- jackson- former 4star with good underclassman stats - super senior

isnt a bad lineup

with depth:
-- newton - junior
-- debaut - senior
-- suggs - junior
-- (atleast 1 of the 5 freshman steps up)
