So is boise more trouble than they’re worth or should we expand by 3 teams and give them travel partners ?

Add Georgia Southern to fill out the Southern Pod.

There is only one college football team in Georgia. Why even bother with the rest.
Too easy...

Pass...

Yeah right. KSU only has about 40K students & has won national championships in MBB & baseball. Just to clear that up for you...
35k and aren't they 1-17 in MBB???

And to be clear, Division II championships.

35K was 2015 & there has been substantial growth since. How many nat'l championships has GA St won at any level?

Sept 2019 was still 35k. We have only been at one level since 1961. Division I. In the last 5 years we have been to 3 NCAAs and 3 bowls. In fact best basketball team in the state. Nothing against. KSU but they are exactly where they belong in FCS. They have a lot of issues to work on.

I like that this has turned into a hot debate over which is better between the FCS and Sun Belt.

As I thought, GA St has no nat'l titles at any level. And you try so hard to boost GA St.

And BTW, KSU is one of the top 10 fastest growing universities in the US. The exact number published IS 38K for 2019. Link provided so you won't have to work so hard, https://news.kennesaw.edu/stories/2019/r...ll2019.php

More likely I am banging my head into concrete this fall if we lose to ECU because we kept Fuqua as DC when we could have hired a guy 15 miles away...

GA State should always lose to ECU regardless of who is coaching.

Uh. That list is long and whoever said it first jinxed us for life apparently.

RE: ECU steals Kennesaw St DC Blake Harrell -3rd in FCS total D (278 YPG) behind JMU/NDSU
ECU now steals WCU's DC as well. Tripp Weaver will serve as safeties coach.

Tripp Weaver to join East Carolina's coaching staff

nhttps://247sports.com/college/east-carolina/Article/Tripp-Weaver-East-Carolina-Pirates-Football-Joins-Coaching-Staff-Mike-Houston--143085891/

A 2012 graduate of ECU, Weaver will reunite with head coach Mike Houston and join a staff he knows well featuring new defensive coordinator Blake Harrell, and assistant coaches Roy Tesh and Byron Thweatt, all of whom Weaver has worked with before between his time at The Citadel and James Madison.

Weaver was recently promoted to Western Carolina's defensive coordinator position in mid-January. He's been at Western Carolina since the 2018 season, serving as the Catamounts' defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator until his recent promotion.

In his first year at Western Carolina, the Catamounts' pass defense improved drastically. After allowing 261.5 yards passing per game and ranking 108th in the FCS in passing yards allowed in 2017, WCU made a jump to 17th nationally with just 176.3 passing yards per contest in 2018.

This will mark Weaver's second stint at East Carolina. Weaver was a student assistant coach under former head coaches Skip Holtz and Ruffin McNeill from 2009-12 before transitioning to an assistant secondary coaching position role from 2012-13, learning first-hand from under then-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Rick Smith in 2013. Weaver also worked with Smith during his time on Holtz's staff in the secondary in 2009.

Weaver, 29, was first hired by Houston in 2014 at The Citadel to coach outside linebackers. He held that position for both years, helping the Bulldogs to a Southern Conference championship and a playoff appearance in 2015. Weaver made the move with Houston to James Madison in 2016, getting hired as the Dukes' cornerbacks coach. James Madison won an FCS national championship in 2016, and followed that up with another national title appearance in 2017 before Weaver left to take the defensive backs/passing game coordinator job at Western Carolina.

Along with his coaching acumen, Weaver is known for his energetic personality on the recruiting trail. He was given the recruiting coordinator title at James Madison for the 2017 season, helping to orchestrate the Dukes' recruiting efforts.

Houston and Weaver have a long history together. A 2008 graduate of T.C. Roberson High School, Weaver was coached by Houston when Houston was the head coach in Asheville, N.C.

Really?
So if an FCS DC held ECU with ZOMG!1!! Holton Ahlers to 222 yards, what does that make the Pirates?

Newberry's results speak for themselves.

While I don't think we've necessarily been the benchmark for powerhouses to shut down over the past few years, you make a good point.

Add Georgia Southern to fill out the Southern Pod.

There is only one college football team in Georgia. Why even bother with the rest.

Yep GT has been gone. Bobby Dodd, the long ago GT hero moved GT out of the SEC because he couldn't compete, first as an independent then in the ACC where they have had some limited success at the expense of traditional opponents. And it's been a slow downhill slide ever since. GA St has attempted to build a program, facilitates first when Turner Field fell into their lap rather than building a following & on the field program success to justify facilities growth. KSU started with BB & baseball & has been competitive at each level, growing a following along the way. And when they added FB, they took the same start small approach. They have only built facilities as fan support demanded but unlike GA St, have grown a fan base as their program has success & growth. But without a doubt UGA is THE program state wide by a wide margin.

First response:
I tend to agree with you in a lot of regards in what you said about Georgia, however, remember Georgia Tech been competitive enough. Just not recently. To add to that, Georgia Tech has a football national title more recently than Georgia too.

Second response:
There is competition. First in the south, where there are bunch of Florida State Fans. A more recent phenomenon, but they do have a big following in the southern part of the state.
In Atlanta, it's a melting pot of sorts with fanbases. Alabama, Tennessee and Clemson all have big followings in Atlanta. So there is competition, but not in the sense that it comes from another in state institution.
