Your reward for over achieving is some dumpster fire P5 school poaching your coach.
Hmm yes the dumpster fire programs of Baylor, Texas, Georgia Tech, Florida State (2x), Nebraska, Virginia Tech. Notable bottom dweller programs of course.
Literally all the schools you listed have been considered dumpster fires or still are in the past 5 years.
My point was, it's a common G5 problem to have staffs poached around bowl time. It's not an exclusive problem of the AAC. But continue to be contrarian if it doesn't fit whatever narrative you were going for.
Bowls mean nothing. Aac still received the best contract with best tv coverage regardless of Bowl record. Guess this shows the Sports tv guys place more..emphasis on regular season wins. Teams like App view Bowl games as their Super Bowls.
No need to talk down about App. I just posted facts that suprised me. I know the AAC is better. It's no defense of your league to pretend bowls dont matter(imagine if this was the case. The regular season ends and nothing matters). If you lose all the time it means you dont have great programs. Yes App does treat bowl games like super bowls. And conference championship games. And regular season games. We fight hard to win every game and feel it inexcusable to lose. That's why we have 13 double digit win seasons, 13 conference titles, 3 fcs national titles (best we could do where we were) a top 5 AP win, and a 5-0 bowl record. Would you rather your team care too much or is it cooler to not care then make an excuse when you lose? Not trying to be a jerk but I dont understand all this league pride. Alabama doesnt brag about the SEC, USC doesnt brag about the PAC12, North Dakota State doesnt brag about wherever they are. You should want to be your own brand and when you grow big enough as a program (TCU, Utah, Boise State one day soon) you will advance to the next level.
But I like the AAC. It's a good league, good money flow. Probably needs to focus on its programs attendance. But UCF especially is impressive to me and I think they have the highest ceiling in the G5.
Not to be pedantic, but happy to explain for you and the other G4 lurkers here.
The AAC Strategic Plan and the P6 campaign only came out AFTER the 2016 BigXII expansion sham.
Fans often use that particular process to say, "See none of you made the cut to be pulled up." Well, as the numbers get bigger and bigger, that's less a judgment on an individual program's inherent value and more a cold calculation than none not already making that much money would independently bring in that much money.
The logical conclusion should be that the 2026 timeframe should be thought of as RESTRUCTURE, not realignment.
So rather than being crabs in a bucket pulling each other down for the one or two golden tickets for realignment, "P6" is about the conference doing everything it can to posture to be on the inside looking out AS A CONFERENCE when the big CFP restructure comes.
It's not just touting on-field results (four out of the last five years closer to the #5 than to the #7-10) It's about delivering TV ratings that make us worth including (17-19 conference controlled games about 30-40% of PAC12 and BigXII viewers). It's saying that our budgets, attendance, facilities, commitment to full cost of attendance, etc have less in common with the other four conferences. Don't lump us on the outside reflexively just because of where we were in 2013 - look at where we are and where we're going.
If you start that perception campaign in 2025, you're too late.
In addition to proving it to the college football infrastructure and the media, can't let untruths live out there.
"Y'know, G5 programs never have a million viewers except bowls... " WRONG - numerous AAC-inventory and AAC vs AAC games over 3 million in the last five years.
"G5 programs attendance is all stuck below 25,000..." WRONG - the AAC averages 28,900 year after year and our top half are all over 30k and only 3 of 11 are below 25,000
