Memphis probably can't expect at KO return td, or to win the turnover battle.

A lot is being assumed here. I agree they’ll try to kick short to avoid kickoff returns. We’re a big play team though and they may (or may not) be successful at preventing explosive plays.

I hope we don’t have to rely on our defense as much as we did Friday, but UC still has the same issues this week as they did last week. Their offense is not prolific and they’ll have to keep us from putting up points.

Winning this game would be some nice payback.

Yep, twice during the regular season, once in conference tourney and then in the ncaa tourney.

We also could have won by more, but threw a pick due to QB/WR miscommunication. Woulda, coulda, shoulda....doesn’t matter.

Logically thinking people realize that a kick return for a TD is not an every game event. You cannot assume that we will duplicate that in this next game. It was an extra benefit that we cannot look upon for the next game. That is why they are called special teams.

The premise is that we have to assume that we will only get a score from our offense and have to focus on that part of the game.

That's absurd. You can't take away the kick off return for a TD. If you can do that, I can take away one of their TDs. Therefore, we still win by 10. See how absurd that is?

I was thinking the same thing, LOL

But we can expect better execution of the offense & better defense against the deep pass without doing much different. And that should account for 2+ scores for Memphis.

I’m fine with all of that, but I’m not looking for reasons why the Tigers will lose (nor am I interested in discussing why someone thinks we were lucky the first time). I think we’re the better team. These things are part of the game and we’re good at making big plays. Chances are good that we don’t run one back next game, but maybe Gainwell goes bananas or someone else has a big game.

I think Memphis has better chances for players exceeding their play relative to last week.

Brady was fine, but not tremendous. Gainwell really good, but not great. Taylor ok, but not good.

I think Memphis wasn't as prepared for the backup qb (and their adjustments showed in the 2nd half) and have scouted Ridder.

I do know that if the game had been in reverse, Memphis fans would say they feel confident because Cinci won't get another "free" td on a kickoff, Cinci won't luck out on a ridiculous trick play, and hopefully a Memphis player won't ruin a 3rd down stop with a bonehead foul.

The Bearcats are sonsabitches. But they are our sonsabitches. i agree with this article, saying that a 2 loss AAC champ deserves the Cotton Bowl. It shouldn't even be close, in my opinion.

I would like to play a team that I won against. Cincinnati is a talented team and not a pushover, so it wont be easy. Its difficult to beat a second time due to the loosing team having a "chip on their shoulder" and the winning team "being cocky". You would be surprised on how much that can play a role. You can look throughout sports history and find lots of examples of this, the one that I can think of (off the top of my head) would be Alabama/LSU in 2011.

My prediction is a close game, probably Memphis by 3.

If the offense had played lights out, won on a last second score and the game was on the road, I’d be more worried. IDK, some back forth type games seem like they can go either way...last team with the ball wins. This was not that...at least for me. While it would have been nice to win by a larger margin, I never felt like the outcome was in doubt.

Saturday will be revenge on two levels for football and the school in general. We will kill two birds with one stone by avenging 4th and 27 and the 1992 Elite 8 in one fell swoop.

We have more to gain from last Friday than we do. They have a really good team, but 90% of our problems were related to gameplan, play calling and strategy. I would think that we will make the needed adjustments.

I think last Friday was the jolt we needed. We went on a rampage after Temple, and the first game made us realize that Cincinnati is better than we thought. I expect the same type of response that we had after Temple.

There is the chance that could have driven down the field and scored a TD. It happens. We're pretty good.

If you take away the injury to TJ Carter and Claybrooks being told to fair catch, we might've run another back for a TD and won by 17.

We don't know the what if's... we do know what happened. We won by 10 and never trailed in the game. We played with a comfortable lead most of the game.
