Good point. US property insurance underwriters are the best risk assessment experts in the world. They've spent literally billions of dollars developing risk models, and they risk tens of trillions of dollars on the accuracy of the models. Yet they don't judge climate models to be reliable indicators of risk.

It's definitely you Bend. I tell my wife that it amazes me that I could work outside day in and out when off from work and during my work day. For my first 15 years when our airport had the government refueling contract we'd be out there refueling every conceivable aircraft, civilian and military, in blazing heat with jets spewing it's exhaust from every direction and the tarmac burning the soles of your work shoes. The aircraft skin so hot that if you didn't wear gloves you'd burn your hands. But, I was 23 when I started and the heat wasn't as bad as now only because I'm old. I still can't understand how I was able to withstand the heat. But, I had to as my kids had a bad habit, they liked to eat.

It's an age thing Bend and it's no hotter today than it was when we were young.

Amen brother... (and you know I mean that in sincerity)

humidity on the tarmac is a 'crippler' at any age....you learn how to 'fight' through it when req'd....

It's also that air conditioning is EVERYWHERE now. We're so used to 70 degrees indoors at all times that we don't know how to deal with 95 degrees anymore.

therefore, if I work in 140 ambient (surface temp added), and chill with 69 'conditioned', it's all about 'servicing'...

I'll share another from a dipshite moo-moo engineer I had to shame one day....

I went out in the shop and painted two 4x4 pcs. of 16ga....one black, one white....

when we went out 5 hrs. later (after both were absorbed in direct sunlight), and put the heat tracer on both, he had to crayfish on his 'scope in premise'...

I've worked the four corners and south of the border.....there's a measurable that cannot be quantified when it comes to wet bulb encapsulation in the skin.....

all it is, is a measurable 'until'...

(09-27-2019 06:04 PM)Fort Bend Owl Wrote:  The UN just released a new ocean warming report this week that was much more damning than this 2018 report. The report was issued by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Control, and was pretty dire.

Among other things it said that the rate ocean temperatures are getting warmer has doubled since 1993, and if things aren't held in check somehow, we're looking at 5 to 7 times hotter oceans in the future (can't remember the exact time frame but it might have been 2100 and beyond?).

Because of ocean temperatures and other factors, the number of fish we'll be able to sustainably catch will drop by 25 percent by the end of the century. Plus with rising sea levels, a lot of coastal communities will be hugely impacted due to both the rising waters and less fish.

Just look at Hurricane Lorenzo if you don't believe ocean temperatures are rising - that's the first Cat 4 hurricane ever recorded that far out east in the Atlantic.

And to be honest, I'm not just concerned with ocean water temperatures rising, local streams, lakes and other bodies of water seem to be carrying dangerous bacteria. I have to look up the numbers but flesh-eating bacteria deaths due to people swimming in local lakes, etc., are at an all-time record high. That is one scary (and fast) death. We just had a 10 year old girl in Texas who died this month due to a bacterial brain-eating infection. That seems like the 3rd or 4th such death in the U.S. this summer alone.

https://www.engadget.com/2019/09/25/ipcc...ge-report/ (more on UN report)

The UN. ....

Quit right there. Those aholes.

I can't do what I could in my 30s and 40s when I would work in the yard all day Saturday and Sunday in HOUSTON in JULY!

I can't do what I could in my 30s and 40s when I would work in the yard all day Saturday and Sunday in HOUSTON in JULY!

It's definitely the age, with one possible exception I've been considering. When I was 12 I shoveled sawdust from the top of the pile to keep the chain from jumping its track and that was in between stacking slabs and later lumber and cross ties. When it was in the 90's in July and August it was well over a hundred at the top of that pile and the sawdust underneath was even hotter. Spreading it out also helped the dust underneath to cool some helping to prevent spontaneous combustion as some gases from decay built up. Anyway it was hotter on your feet standing in that pile than around your face and neck.

Football practice in late August was even worse in full pads with suicide drills at the end and at a time when only sissies wanted water.

In my 20's and 30's there wasn't a hot day I couldn't tolerate while working in the yard or fishing in the Gulf Stream. In my 40's and 50's and early 60's I was mowing two yards that were 100 ft x 310ft but I started having to change shirts out as I soaked through one in about an hour.

Now I have to avoid the hottest time of the day. It just saps my energy whereas the early mornings and late evenings when the shadows give some relief permit me to stay out long enough to finish the jobs.

But I have noticed something else. I've never burned easily, but lately I get a different type of burn. My skin doesn't turn red and peel, but the surface of my skin seems to get hotter than it once did. I know there have been fluctuations in the magnetosphere due to pockets where the electromagnetic field isn't as strong as it once was. That makes me wonder if we are getting more ambient ultraviolet A & B radiation. So I chalk most of it up to age, but I'm wondering if a part of the lower tolerance is something I can't see, but that I certainly am feeling in my skin.

it doesn't matter anymore. I went back and read some of the articles, predictions and warnings from the IPCC and other climate experts from 2010 and 2011. they said we only had 5 years to reverse the trends or climate change would be irreversible.

So... discussing this now is re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. It's too late. the experts have told us so
