CAA/A-10 is fine for people that aren't football fans.

Several CAA teams would beat us this year. I’d be pleased with that arrangement now that this P5 mess has come into the world.

I’d love that, but supposedly the CAA won’t allow it. Richmond was grandfathered in. It would be the best fit for ODU without a doubt in my mind.

True, so I’ll say after seeing our squad and the CAA teams, I predict we would finish third or fourth in the CAA and I’m glad we don’t know for sure because that would be more embarrassing than losing to J/G MU in hoops.

Well, we are continuing to sink, although not much lower that we can go. Athlon https://athlonsports.com/college-footbal...kings-2019 places us at a commanding 126/130 and Charlotte at 88/130 and projected to be heading to the Bahamas Bowl -- how about them apples, first year coach Will Healy (taking over for a squad that went 5-7 in 2018) is 6-5 and after Saturday probably 7-5 courtesy ODU.
Absolutely disgusting how low our program has sunk under BW's leadership (or lack thereof). A complete embarrassment that needs to be tended to as soon as the season completes. I'm not sure that the program can afford to not buy out Wilder, as the revenues will continue to slide.
Thought that the contract extension he got was not deserved when he got it, had no performance clauses other than bonuses if he did well -- nothing at the other end of the spectrum. Woodman needs to be queued up next and I think that Broderick is on his way out as well -- having upped the stature of the university such that anyone with a pulse can be admitted (85%, how's that for competitive leadership).

Anyone who thinks that going back to the CAA would cure what ails ODU football: Forgetting the drop in TV revenue and game guarantees while still having to travel to the likes of Maine and New Hampshire, what happens if ODU struggles in the CAA? Do they drop to the Big South? MEAC? Division 2? Drop football and use the new stadium for ultimate frisbee competitions?
On the other hand, maybe we should acknowledge the possibility that going 1-11 this season really IS the event horizon. I mean, look at UCF. A few years ago they went 0-12. And now? Are they even accredited? Or did ECPI take possession of the campus?

The consolation in this scenario is for basketball to be A10. The drop down would be a basketball-first move, considering the move to CUSA was entirely based on football with no regard for the basketball program.

FWIW, US News has UCF ranked 166 and ODU ranked 263 academically. They also have twice the enrollment, are in football centric Florida and have AAC money and TV presence. Not sure it’s apples to apples any longer.

The consolation in this scenario is for basketball to be A10. The drop down would be a basketball-first move, considering the move to CUSA was entirely based on football with no regard for the basketball program.
But why would the CAA allow ODU football in without the rest of the sports? Richmond doesn't count because when they left for the A-10, the A-10 was also the sponsor of what today is CAA Football. The transition didn't happen until 2007. And you'll recall that CAA Football nearly tripped over their genitalia to keep ODU from being eligible for the conference title, even though on paper they weren't under the same vindictive rules the all-sports conference operates under. Plus they told Charlotte to pound salt when they were looking for a home for its football program while the rest of their sports stayed in the A-10.
And even if the CAA was feeling nostalgic or magnanimous or whatever, and ODU managed to find the formula proving that a move back to FCS with its new eight-figure FBS-oriented football stadium somehow made financial sense, why do people keep thinking there's an opening in the A-10? The A-10 has 14 schools. They're as spread out and illogical as CUSA; from St. Louis to Charlotte to wherever in God's green ass Olean, New York is. They are not looking for new members and quite frankly have no incentive to even if they lose up to four schools for one reason or another (10 schools makes a tidy 18-game round robin).
Someone on the realignment board suggested ODU could pursue FBS independence/A-10 membership, and that would be much better than a full-on retreat to the likes of roadies against Elon, Rhode Island and Albany, but again, no room at the inn barring a massive implosion, or a major restructuring of the NCAA rules that opened the door for the A-10 to split into northern and southern conferences. But I wouldn't count on either.

And before we go crazy lifting up the CAA for its football awesomeness, they're not exactly having their best season. Three teams in the 24-team tournament field this year: JMU, Nova and Albany.
ODU's bad, there's little doubt about that, but they're FBS bad, not bottom half of the CAA bad.

CBS Sports came out with their latest Bottom 25. Woohoo, ODU is #4.
I am so proud in what we have become. And some of you want to extend the misery by keeping BW even longer. Have you lost your minds? Get rid of him NOW.

Agreed. Fire him the following week .... instead of a BW blowing smoke press conference, WS should have one to announce that the program will be going in a different direction to end the train wreck.

Even if we were at or near the top of CUSA we'd still be in the bottom 25% of FBS. Where is the glory in that?

Because watching CUSA football is a heck of a lot better football than CAA. There are some that like watching high school football and if thats your thing, sobeit, but the level of play in CUSA is substantially greater than CAA.

I call fabrics. With a little muscle and competent leadership behind us, the CAA would allow it. They would make out on the deal. We would improve their brand and the regional rivalries would stand a better chance of making it to TV. We were also successful at football in the CAA and would likely be successful again. May be against their current rule, but rules change.

Not sure what you are watching. Regardless of the fact that we suck, the games were much better before we made the move. The only CUSA football memory I will have is a game winning FG and it was @FAU and the only reason I remember it is because it was shown at the Ted during a basketball game against VCU. The overall quality of the CUSA games have been terrible and they are rarely competitive.

We've watched a ton of NFL caliber talent....Driskell, Hendrickson, Ximenes, Singletary, the list goes on. The talent on the team, even at 1-10, is way higher than CAA talent. We have a few younger players that may have the ability to play in the NFL someday. That is more enjoyable to me than watching competitive high school games. That is just my opinion, not sure what others think.

If you don't think the talent in CUSA is substantially higher than CAA, then you honestly, have zero clue. How many players are in the NFL from CUSA versus CAA?
