Just try it once before you knock it. Make sure they don't short you on the seasoning, though. I know some locations leave the seasoning shaker at the counter so you can put more on if there isn't enough already. It goes well with the Spicy Cajun Filet Biscuit add cheese and Texas Pete.
The type and quality of the fries does matter. Fries have to be right or the mayo just doesn't work.
What I like is good quality thicker cut fries with malt vinegar and salt.

I don't even eat ketchup on fries. But I do enjoy malt vinegar dabbed on them.

Never was much a ketchup person until Whattaburger Hot Ketchup. That crap is GOOD.

Get fries at Rusty's or Arthur's in Charlotte and put some malt vinegar and ketchup on those bad boys, those are great! Both have delicious burgers, too.

But it's not BBQ. That title is only for pulled pork.
Hell man any meat smoked over low heat is BBQ and I'll gladly eat whole hog, pork butt, pork ribs, brisket, chicken, turkey, and sausages and enjoy myself.
My rule of thumb is if you think your style is the best bar none, then ship me a couple pounds and let me see if I can agree.
I live in the county that has Lexington, NC as it’s county seat. We are a bit bias around here. There’s fights over the 2 main BBQ restaurants even though they are pretty similar.
I will admit vinegar based sauce is an acquired taste though. But I’m not even a fan of BBQ slaw, have to have normal white slaw with BBQ.
Cook's in Southmont near Swearing Creek is the best barbecue I have tasted in mnoy 36 years.
No doubt about it. Been going there for 30+ years. A little off the beaten path, but it's BBQ done exactly how Lexington style should be. Also have killer homemade deserts.

Apple Cider Vinegar on Thrasher’s Fries in Ocean City, Maryland. Best thing you will ever eat.
