No, Assumption High School and another high school did.

Bellarmine owns a fair amount of what people think is Joe Creason Park across Newburg Rd.

Actually, BU did procure a chunk of that real estate:

RE: BELLARMINE
What part/how much of Joe Creason does Bellarmine own. It would be incredible if the campus could expand that direction. Everything is SO landlocked on the other sides.

Any plans to renovate baseball/softball facilities, you know like seating or concessions?

I know BU uses at least part of its land across Newburg Road, in the Creason area, for intramurals and some other outdoor events. In case you haven't been by the campus in a while, they also purchased the four-story former NCR building across the street from the main entrance and put classrooms and offices (development and marketing, I think) in there, including a fairly large addition on the backside. Behind that building, there's a track and field training area as well as the modest "Bellarmine Farm" (I think environmental studies students use that, and at least some of the crops are used in campus dining).

Yes, they do intend to upgrade both the baseball and softball fields, to include better seating, better press boxes, etc. As they did for Knights Hall, they had artist renderings for both fields at the D-I announcement. With the pandemic and finances up in the air, though, I have no idea when they'll do it. I don't think they've started work on the latest Knights Hall renovations, but admittedly haven't been on campus in months.

RE: BELLARMINE
It’d open things up if BU could purchase the Highland Court Apartments and Highland Middle School. That’s a lot of space for expansion. I went to HMS in 6th grade. If the City of Louisville gifted or sold BU the park, Bellarmine would be set for life.

Yeah, I've always thought those senior apartments, right by the arena, would make for solid on-campus housing. Bellarmine currently is a co-owner of that property:
http://hcmlouisville.org/apartment-info

I'd be shocked if the county school system ever sold that nearby middle school, to BU or otherwise. I hear rumors about Creason Park every now and then, but I imagine leftists would be "triggered" if the city gave, or even sold, the park property to a putatively church-affiliated entity. BU once owned that land, but, per Wikipedia, sold it to the city in '66. Not much talk about BU and that space since 2015:
https://www.wdrb.com/news/bellarmine-loo...b74d4.html
https://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/b...t-joe.html

There's quite a bit of interesting stuff in this BU master plan, particularly pp. 10-18:
https://www.bellarmine.edu/docs/default-...ed_low.pdf

Note the above document was prepared by the previous administration. There's a bit more recent info here, but it still pre-dates the pandemic:
https://www.bellarmine.edu/strategic-pla...tegic-plan

Given the state of the economy as well as the public mindset, in the short term, maintaining the status quo for enrollment, programs, and facilities would be a victory.

And it's okay if you want to go on the record and declare that BU is your second-favorite ASUN program.
04-cheers

Some of the Bellarmine fans may have noticed already, but it looks like BU has updated the athletics website for the ASUN move:

Rather than play as a D-I independent in field hockey, Bellarmine has joined the MAC as an affiliate member for that sport:
https://athletics.bellarmine.edu/news/20...ockey.aspx

Effective in 2021, and a good move in my opinion.

That is a good move for Bellarmine. Hope they own the MAC and maybe Liberty can put a good word in with the Big East.

RE: BELLARMINE
anyone else think the Bellarmine has their hopes set on coming in, being good at basketball, and then getting themselves into a package deal with Murray St in the MVC?

No. I think they want to follow their mission stated by the president to become the premier Catholic university of the south.

I think they intend to do what's best for themselves. So if they come in, have success, and end up getting an invitation elsewhere, I think they will seriously consider it and probably accept depending on the conference. I don't think they are actively looking or pursuing anything.

I am going to assume none of the rioting or protesting has affected the Bellarmine campus. My family said Louisville has lost it’s everloving mind and the mayor and police are letting the rioters have their way.

There was a protest at the entrance to Liberty. It was peaceful.

Yeah, it's rather out of control here at times downtown and in other parts not too far from it, thanks in no small part to the bumbling mayor and governor.

I've not been by the campus since basketball season, but I haven't heard of any problems over there.

I think COVID-19 may have pushed some of that work back, as I haven't heard of any major upgrades yet, but I did see social media posts on Thursday about the new paint job for the court (which now includes the ASUN logo).

https://twitter.com/KendrickHaskins/stat...0195524610

In other news, this week Bellarmine announced that the campus will be open, albeit with some new policies, for the fall semester (and that Coach Davenport will have his basketball camps in July).

Bellarmine will, in my opinion, follow the path of Northern Kentucky and accept an offered bid to the Horizon League once their probationary period is up. Their president has to put a spin on their acceptance into the ASUN. The HL would be a better fit though. They could still be the premier Catholic university of the south and be in a Midwestern conference. Bellarmine and Southern Indiana would be the final two schools in the HL's expansion plans.

The Knights have 5 years to ramp up funding to renovate or build a new Knights Hall for inclusion into the Horizon. I have no sources, no links, just me spitballing. Those of us posting on the HL fans forum called it on Oakland, NKU and Robert Morris. We missed it on Purdue Fort Wayne and IUPUI. 60% ain't bad.

BU fans may be interested in this new interview with one of our all-time favorite Knights, Braydon Hobbs. He's still playing in the top league in Germany.
