I saw that CBS (not NCAA) article when looking into the question (and kudos to Merrimack), but Bellarmine's head coach repeated the statement, about potential NIT eligibility in the future, just this week:

He has a show on that ESPN Radio affiliate in Louisville, but here he was co-hosting some morning show. Perhaps the rule change doesn't take effect until next year; I'm not sure.

You called it, dude. At least initially, men's basketball.

Can’t wait till Liberty visits Knights Hall (I hope it’s a weekend game). I will definitely have to plan a trip home for that.

Has Bellarmine reached out to UofL or old rival NKU for games?

Don't know about NKU, although it would seem a natural for a long term home and home contract.

I am sure that there has been at least some discussion with UofL, considering Scotty's close relationship (alum and former assistant). It seems like UofL always has some fairly weak preconference opponents, so I don't know why they couldn't schedule Bellarmine in place of one of those.

I am fairly optimistic that Bellarmine will have an impressive road non con schedule. I think it will be difficult to schedule almost any D1 home games. I would be ecstatic if they could get some OVC ,MVC, or Horizon league teams to visit.

RE: BELLARMINE
I'm cautiously optimistic that Scotty will use his substantial connections to get a fairly "name" opponent for the first D-I home game. Of course, that might take some sort of special deal (say, a "3 for 1") where the other games in the series are all on the opponent's home court.

Ha! Welcome to the ASUN. It’s almost impossible to schedule quality OOC home games. Liberty can’t even get a good game at home.

It was refreshing to hear Scotty say, on the radio the other day, that season ticket prices won't be going up for the coming season.

Haven't checked it out yet, but it looks like Pedro Bradshaw was recently interviewed on a new podcast:

RE: BELLARMINE
Per Liberty's website, in women's hoops, LU hosts Bellarmine on 1/11 and visits BU on 2/6.

So, if the scheduling is like last season, the men would play on those dates as well.

Not necessarily. There were a number of weeks they played separate schedules. But I am hopeful.
And that’s Saturday of my birthday week. I know what I’m asking for.

Yeah, I only cross-checked dates for a few of Liberty's men's and women's conference games last season.

You ain't kidding. I looked at all the ASUN's teams ooc schedule. There wasn't anything close to a name basketball team. Former ASUN Belmont played at Lipscomb, probably the best game, of course they are both in Nashville and played a home and home two game series.

You would think that Liberty could get a decent opponent considering their attendance is good and probably can offer a decent pay out. Of course the fact that they are good probably hurts them because big name teams don't want to lose. But they did not even manage to schedule a middle of the pack team from a mid major conference.

I would also think that the ASUN teams in Florida could sell a school up north on a December game in Florida. Especially FGCU. Enjoy the weather and pick up a win.

North Alabama is playing South Carolina in Florence Alabama next year.... I believe it's a 2 for 1 deal. We went to South Carolina last year, I believe they come and we go back.

Did Bellarmine ever go ahead and purchase that land further out Newburg Rd. by the old Bashford Manor Mall and convert it into a sports complex?

No, Assumption High School and another high school did.

Bellarmine owns a fair amount of what people think is Joe Creason Park across Newburg Rd.

I guess it depends on what you consider good. We had Radford (local rival) and Navy last year. Those were just over looked because of the other terrible games. Some recent games in the last five years also saw GaSt, Houston, VCU and William and Mary (another local).
