We cut checks every year for the buy games played. I'm ok with paying ARSt for the 2nd game. They bring fans, so it would likely wouldn't cost more than playing Mercer, but the game & atmosphere would be much better & better attended.

And it would offset any 2 for 1 we might schedule against a P5.

Playing an FCS team as the first game probably does not hurt attendance due to:
1) It’s the first game and people are going to be eager to go regardless of the opponent. We
2) It wont be televised so we can play at night which always helps with attendance, esp. early is season when it’s HOT. Afternoon games in Aug/Sept are brutal & many will stay home and watch on TV instead of going to stadium even for bigger opponent.

Playing the FCS team in Week 2 or 3 will hurt attendance. I think it’d be better for us to flip the Ole Miss & Southern game dates.

GA is a MUCH better recruiting area for us. If AR State is up then it helps with some perception, but not much. I like the series with Troy better than both of them for that reason.

Distance is the best reason to play AR State.

It is among the last options to pursue. I have zero interest in playing Ark St.

The admin has to find ways to pay the bills. ARSt brings fans. OM brings fans, AR will bring fans. UTK brings fans. MSU brings fans. MO will bring fans. Any of the top half of the B12 or SEC would bring fans. Even UK would probably bring fans. But not GSU, not Mercer, not UL-Monroe, not So AL & surely not Troy. I understand & agree with the idea of playing up - playing SEC & B12 schools. Those schools bring fans & those games would stir interest among Tiger fans too. But most of the same folks don't want to play down - Sunbelt, CUSA, FCS but back to reality - the admin has to find ways to pay the bills. ArSt is a play down that will help pay the bills & they represent a long standing opponent for us.

As I recall in our attendance records an AR St game or 2 ranks pretty high. So like K2 said, more than our current play down opponents.

Why would they give up that 1 Million just to come to Memphis and lose money on travel while gifting Memphis the home gate.

I'm just saying they would probably begrudgingly agree to playing here as well, even at a 2/1.

and selling 7 dolla beers at the concession stand next to the visitor section

i saw about 2-3k asu fans per game

they were always amazed that we sold beer AND liquor.

Actually no, not necessarily giving up a home game but almost as good as a home game for many of their fans. And I'm sure there will be some fee paid for them to travel to Memphis. Like I said before, we have routinely paid UT-Martin, So IL, Mercer, SEMO etc. And we'd probably offer a higher fee because ARSt will bring some fans.
