Exclamation Arky State. We should play them every year.
All this talk of 2 for 1s makes me think - you KNOW we sell out (or close to it) their stadium every time we play there. I think the admin ought to take their temperature on perpetual 2 for 1s. No pay. Just a massively increased gate for them when we visit Jonesboogie. Of course, we don't CALL it perpetual. We just offer a 2/1, and after 3 years, offer another 2/1.

The benefit to us would be that their fans actually travel here, so a slight bump for us in an otherwise boring Sunbelt home opponent. Some actually live and work here (or in Marion or West Memphis). The other thing is obviously this would counteract any 1/2s we schedule with big-time programs (like LSU... hint hint).

Would rather Southern Miss personally but I get it. Do both if they’ll agree to 2-1. Doubt they will though. From their perspective, there are plenty P5 opponents that would do all we do for them AND pay them a good sum to do it. Why take a lesser opponent and not get paid for the same deal?

Because their fans can't drive to Miami.

There is no appeal to playing Southern Miss. We don't travel, they don't travel.

If you're going to regularly play a G5, the only real option is Arkansas State. Don't give me some BS about Middle Tennessee Diploma Mill or Birmingham neither.

they might would do 2 for 1 if WE WERE NOT ALREADY PLAYING HOME and HOME...Why would they go backwards?

RE: Arky State. We should play them every year.
I'm not sure I would want Ark St every year, maybe every other year. Or maybe 2 in a row, skip, 1, skip, etc. You have a good point geo, they're going to get a full stadium when we're there.

I get the reasoning of recruiting exposure behind playing in Mobile and Atlanta, and maybe someone could say the same about Birmingham and the 'boro. I've whined for several years that I wish we would play Louisiana Tech. I don't know if enough people care about Southern Miss these days, and they are in a downswing, but La Tech has had the reputation as one of the more solid non-big-name-conference teams. Maybe they've kind of hit a downswing too since the WAC days.

But they can drive to Arkansas, Ole Miss, Ms. State, Oklahoma, etc....

I don't know about EVERY year but I would be down with playing say 8 games over 10 years all home-home

they bring a solid size crowd to the Liberty Bowl and ASU makes for an easy road trip...It's the same set-up I'd like to see between Memphis and Mississippi.

lots of good recruits in the West Memphis/Marion/Wynne/Jonesboro area that could come watch us play.

the last time BOTH were in the running for the same conference title the game drew 47,000 at LBS. When both teams are good they draw fairly good for the game.

ASU is the perfect 2 for one or maybe 3 for 2 deal for us. Much easier and cheaper than the 2 road games at South Alabama and Louisiana Monroe. Sign a 3 for 2 with them with no pay either way.

AR St every year at Memphis or 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 - would make a good annual series.

I'm not saying pay them, which would be the only way THAT would happen. 04-cheers

Agreed. Southern Miss' glory days are long behind them. Ain't nobody rising up and making waves in the current version of Conference USA.

I do feel bad for USM, but such is life.

Does Arkansas play them h/h? The rest of them are a lot longer drives than 1 1/2 hours. Even Fayettville is a lot longer that 1 1/2 hrs for them.

RE: Arky State. We should play them every year.
The only P5 H/H on their future schedule I see ( https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/arkansas-state/ ) is Iowa State in 24 and 25. But as I also discovered while there that we have a 2 for 2 deal with them, not a 1/1. So this is pretty much a moot point until 2024.

unless we're prepared to cut them a check for the extra home game they're not gonna bite...they'd rather play teams like SMU or Tulsa home-home.

We cut checks every year for the buy games played. I'm ok with paying ARSt for the 2nd game. They bring fans, so it would likely wouldn't cost more than playing Mercer, but the game & atmosphere would be much better & better attended.

And it would offset any 2 for 1 we might schedule against a P5.
