Andy van Vliet and his team are in the championship finals series of Israel's premier Winner League for the first time in team history. That team with he and Nathan should have dominated the CAA regardless of supporting cast.

With Minnesota picking Auburn center, Walker Kessler, you have to wonder where Nathan's future lies......

Hopefully on a team that will give him a real chance. I doubt it’ll be the T-wolves.

Depends if the Wolves keep Naz Reid. I think they would, unless they get involved in trades.
If not, there was plenty of competition for him as a two-way player last year and he played well; could be in play again or maybe even a 15th man spot.

Strange things happen. Guys like Kent Bazemore from ODU floated around (four teams in his first three years) and then found a nice situation in Atlanta. He's been in the league 10 seasons and has made a bunch of money.
I don't think he's under contract with anyone right now either.

On a side note, I saw in The Virginian Pilot where Marcus Thornton and Terry Tarpey are on 2 of the 64 teams that are playing in that tournament this summer where the winning team splits one million dollars. In fact the article mentioned that Greg Malinowski and Terry are on the same team.

RE: W&M - Pro Basketball
The Timberwolves issued a qualifying offer to Nate yesterday in order to make him a restricted free agent. The qualifying offer is another one-year two-way contract (with $50k guaranteed) and the Wolves now have the right to match any other contract offer Nate might receive from another team.

W&M - Pro Basketball
I'm guessing the Twolves bringing in Rudy Gobert doesn't help Nate on the depth chart. If I'm Nate, I'm keeping my eyes open for better opportunities.

I would actually say it does help, because they just opened up four roster spots and shipped out two bigs.
They'll have to sign at least three minimum guys even if they keep their non-guaranteed players.

Good point. It could possibly elevate Nate to compete for one of KATs primary backup spots at the stretch 4.
With Kessler and Vanderbilt shipped out and Greg Monroe currently not signed, it leaves Naz Reid, Jaden McDaniels, & Nate to battle for minutes backing up KAT & Gobert. The Twolves sent away most of their coming 1st round picks in the deal as well, so there is little help coming from there.

RE: W&M - Pro Basketball
I'd be pretty surprised if the team didn't keep Naz Reid now, he was pretty good for them.
Really depends on how much the Wolves want to stagger KAT and Gobert. If they do, then Reid is probably only seeing the floor for spot minutes and Nate's a guaranteed DNP-CD until someone gets hurt. If they play them together a lot, Reid becomes a real rotation guy and Nate is in line for the spot minutes.
The optimistic view is that right now it's a very short bench loaded up on wings, and the Wolves can only afford minimum guys for their remaining spots, likely three of them. It's hard to imagine the Wolves convincing three guys to play for the minimum that they all like more than Nate. It's TBD on opportunities to play, but his minimum salary is now $1.8M and I'm guessing he'd care much more about locking that down before he cared too deeply about his minutes.

"The Minnesota Timberwolves announced the team has exercised team options on guard Jaylen Nowell and center Naz Reid. Both are now under contract for the 2022-2023 season for under $2M."

Well, technically they exercised options on non-guaranteed contracts, so they could cut either one with no money spent until January, when all contracts in the league become guaranteed. In similar circumstances, they might indeed cut a guy like that in training camp. But here both Nowell and Reid will probably be significant parts of the rotation.

Hard not to suspect he and Paolo will turn out to be quite the duo.

Nate is stuck in Minnesota for another season unless someone offers him a fully guaranteed contract.

Not true. Someone can still offer a standard contract that is largely, or maybe even entirely, non-guaranteed that Minnesota is not interested in matching. An offer sheet has to be at least two years but deals of this sort often offer a guaranteed year up front with multiple non-guaranteed years on the back end (minimum deals can't be more than two years but teams without cap can still use exceptions to sign longer deals). It's also possible (although I don't think very likely) they rescind the qualifying offer on him, which they could do until July 13.
Also, Nate seems to like the Wolves and it seems like they're in the best position (or one of them) to offer him spot minutes because they only have three bigs rostered and two will play together. I think every other team either has more or is otherwise out of roster spots. So if he's back in Minnesota on another two-way, it's not the worst thing in the world. But of course, I'm sure his first priority is getting the standard minimum salary wherever it's offered. Minnesota might be the best position for that--they have either two or three roster spots spots left (depending on what they do with the second rounder they picked) and don't have the midlevel exception anymore, so in all likelihood they'll need a minimum-level big, and it just depends on whether they want any of the free agents more than Nate.
