Last year's JUCO players did not set the world on fire. I hope he does better this year.
There aren't any listed in connection to NIU. There was one guy (I can't remember his name) who played for Highland CC (I think?) but he's not listed with NIU anymore. I looked to see if he'd transferred and no one comes up associated with "Highland" (I'm pretty certain that was the JUCO) but nothing did.
Right now, you are choosing between the best of the rest

Big red, all of the NIU activity is listed at NIU verbal commits: The guys name was Luka Barisic a 6’9 juco. Luka just committed to UTSA.

To be honest, there are still a lot of really good high school players who have yet to sign. I assume the same is true with JUCO transfers, but I would be guessing.

That's his name!!
And yeah, I've been using VC for my info, I just knew that he had dropped off the list and I couldn't remember his name.

JUCO players are great, but I think its bad news to rely on JUCO players to be your top 1 or 2 contributor consistently. Seems to me it would be hard to build a consistent program that way. Too many moving parts, and just hard to build consistency and continuity

That Ohio list of transfers is eye catching, wow. That program seems to be in as much disarray as NIU. Those are pretty important players.

That's a much worse situation. Those are two key guys whereas NIU isn't really losing anything. A little in both Key and Richie, but nothing with the same gravity as those two guys.
And like I point out with EMU. They lost their entire freshman class and half of their sophomore class.
Now, I'm not trying to point out that because those two programs are in worse shape, then NIU is doing fantastic!!! (I apparently have to put in that disclaimer on this board nowadays). But losing two fringe rotation guys and two guys who mean absolutely nothing to the program is far from being in "disarray". Granted, if German, James, McCarty, or Henry-Hays (to a slightly lesser extent) depart too, then I go in with you on "disarray".

Worthless comment, imho unless they name names or describe why players are considering options.
Wouldn't everyone consider their options? I mean in years past players were stuck with their teams now there are options so players consider them.

RE: Jaylen Key leaving....
That's what I said about the NS story a couple pages back. I hate when they do that. If you know, say so. Don't tease to play insider.
Anyway, just pure speculation, but considering the list you guys have assembled in a string of posts (terrific work!), I have to wonder how much of this is "encouraged" housecleaning. Somebody mentioned "deadwood."
If that's the case, I could see relying somewhat on JUCOs as a temporarily stabilizer for a year or two while the ship gets righted. Think about it ... bring in some talented JUCOs, go over .500 with what you have, get a good working reputation and go from there.
Or the above is a pipe dream. Grasping at straws. Something. Anything to get a rep as a steady .500-plus program. (I'd take .700 but the store said they just sold the last one).

Sorry klake, sadly, Luca Brasí is “sleeping with the fishes”.

The list of 4 does not seem so bad after all. Hoping rest stay and Monty has a plan. I back of my thinking Monty must go. He should be on a short leash nest year, yes again 1 more year.

This past year was supposed to be the apex and culmination of the Monty era. It was as good as NIU will be for awhile, and it led to a sub .500 regular season conf record. Granted a great conference this season, but still

It was also supposed to had a lineup of Porter, German, Wilson, Bradley or A Healthy Key, James, Pauga, Justin Thomas, Thorpe. While it was not a good season in my opinion it was not far from being a 20 win above 500 MAC season.

Welcome back dekalb222. I will put more weighting on that post. Noah should stay. Lacey and him would make a good combo down low with their muscle especially if Geno is back.

Huskie87fan, you are 100% correct Noah should stay! He likely would start the season as the starting powerforward.

There's literally no one else on the roster who could (should...) start at PF. There are a couple freshman (one being Lee who is a redshirt freshman) who may develop into one, but not in game 1 of next season.
