RE: Women's basketball polls/bracketology updates (March 4)
Has a team ranked 21 or higher in AP ever gotten a 12 seed or lower in either the men's or women's tournament? I suspect the answer is no.

It's kind of crazy to think that there are supposedly 41 better teams in the tournament, and for some reason, 21 of those teams are behind us in the rankings...

Rice is #31. That is not something they can control right now.
I think Ant meant this week's poll ranking, not RPI.
Yup. We arent playing a 1 seed - they are good, but so are we. These are the moments that start changing the perception of a program.
Going by the AP poll, we are a #21 playing a #18 first round and then presumably #14 A&M in the 2nd round and playing in Texas. We could make the Sweet 16 without having to beat a top 10 team! I like our chances and am super excited! And I am sure the team wouldn't mind some payback for the earlier loss to A&M!
There we go.

To hell with the seeding. Kick A-- and take names. Show the rest of the Athletic Dept that whining about respect isn't how you get it. Do it and make them like it. Then do it again next year and thereafter. How the hell do you think Gonzaga has beoome a number 1 seed in the Big Fricking West? Over and over again

And 3 more (Marshall, USM, UNT) make the CBI. I think we were something like 8-0 vs. NIT teams, and 7-0 vs. CBI teams (1-3 vs NCAA teams). 16-3 vs postseason teams, and we're a 12 seed. Okie-dokie (but honestly, I like our bracket - I just can't believe that teams like Missouri State, Quinnipiac and Princeton are seeded ahead of us, and Little Rock and UCF are seeded equal to us).

Yep. We need to be what Navy has spent the last decade being in football (or maybe Army, over the last couple of years), what Gonzaga has spent the last decade being in basketball, and what Rice spent the decade before that being in baseball. And we can do it. But we actually have to do it. Excuses why we didn't are not good enough.
It's not, "Losing is okay if you have a good enough excuse," and it's not, "If you don't care where you are going, the path of less resistance will get you there." We have to care passionately about where we are going, there will be resistance, and no excuses are acceptable. Get into that mode and we can make it happen.

Sadly, while Nero fiddled (or the BOT, take your pick) in the last 25 years (yes, it was 25 years ago we beat Texas in FB, some old guy had just become our baseball coach and it seemed Bskb has turned the corner-I am forgetting a certain game in 93, but things were better than the horrors of the 80's), we have seen and ignored the playbook laid out by TCU and now by some clown show in our hometown. Remember when one of the posters used to document the Maggard Report, showing our dominance? I can't even consider going to any event vs them.

To be fair, if memory serves, Quinnipac does just a longer winning streak. Hopefully, Rice finishes with a longer one...

I'll also be watching this weekend on ESPN3. HOWEVER, should we make the Sweet 16, the Owls will be coming to Chicago! Coincidentally, I'm hosting the first of this year's Coaching Caravans next Wednesday, with Bloomgren, Karlgaard and Mello all in attendance. Should we make beat Marquette and the Aggies, Joe and Rick can just stay in town for the weekend against Stanford and Notre Dame.

Should be a great game and I think we play UCLA also at home. (04-08-2019 07:51 PM)dragon2owl Wrote: Rice ended up "27th" in the Coaches Poll with 30th points.

If we host A&M next year it's very likely they will be Top 10.

UCLA could very well be top 5. They bring everybody back and have the #2 or #3 recruiting class in the country.
