so was this the Jansen giving up the homer or Muncy getting the walk off?

Ohhh, definitely the former.

I wasn't up at the time, so really couldn't decide which it was.... Either one you could say that was a very valid response....

For sure. Not that I think you should check, but I'd guess the time stamp of my post is within a minute of Tellez's HR. Funny thing - it was a pretty good pitch. 93 mph cutter off the plate inside. Challenging pitch to hit. But it kind of doesn't matter at this point. Jansen has 6 blown saves this year so rationalizing one just feels like window dressing. He's got to be losing the faith of his teammates and manager (despite Roberts' comments last night).

The guy has relied almost exclusively on his cutter for his entire career. It's still a good pitch but it's no longer so devastating that he doesn't have to throw anything else. I know he's trying to learn how to throw the slider more often and in high leverage situations but I just don't know when/if that's going to start working.

Scherzer back and looked pretty solid tonight. 4 innings 71 pitches with 1 run(on a homer) and 3 k's. Definitely what you would want for 1st start back. Next start vs Orioles, and then it's on after that for him.

i'm not complaining.

how about this. Only 3 Nats for the month of August have wRC+ under 100 right now. All 3(Dozier, Adams, and Gomes) are at 95-96. That's amazing. Just a lineup with no holes. The team is at 144 for the month(just using non pitchers), best in MLB.

RE: 2019 MLB Thread
a dud for Ryu tonight. ERA up from 1.64 to 2.00. He's got more innings thrown now since his Dodgers Rookie season of 2013. He's going to be really interesting to watch- you figure he's going to be one starter the Dodgers really try to limit his innings down the stretch maybe above any of the other starters....

Soto's really a helluva player. Makes me cringe every time we face him. The middle of your order is scary.

Question RE: 2019 MLB Thread
Braves have been dealing last few games as well. Went 7-2 on homestand that included 3 with Dodgs. Last night was an incredible extra-innings affair. DeGrom K's 13, one short of his career-high, and hits a dinger to tie it at 1 apiece in 6th. Metz strike out a team-record 26 in game, all for naught. Ties the NL record for a game, too. Mike Folty goes 7, with only 2 hits allowed and 7Ks. Braves bullpen then holds through 14 innings. Metz had several chances, including bases loaded in extras and man on 3rd with only 1 out in extras and couldn't score to win it. Braves win when recent waiver-pickup Billy Hamilton from KC gets his first Braves single (along with 2SBs--the man is fast). Freeman would have got the go-ahead, but his hit lodged in bullpen door and sent flowers back to third as a ground-rule double.

21-year-old Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. became the second-youngest player with a 30-homer, 30-steal season -- only Mike Trout did it younger. He has 36 homers, and over a month left, so he could become the youngest 40-40 player in MLB history if he keeps going.

Braves injury status report:

Braves: SS Dansby Swanson (right foot contusion) felt good after his first rehab game with Class A Rome on Thursday. He was back at shortstop Friday night for seven innings and went 1 for 3. ... 3B/OF Austin Riley (right knee sprain) was the DH for Rome in his first rehab game and went 0 for 4. ... OF Nick Markakis (broken left wrist) was upgraded from a full cast to a removable one and did some running in the outfield before the game. ... RHP Darren O'Day (right forearm strain) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League. He pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two.

Tonight it's Braves LHP Max Fried (14-4, 3.84) who will honor late Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs with his Players' Weekend uniform, which reads "Love You Ty." Fried and Skaggs both grew up in Southern California. RHP Zack Wheeler (9-7, 4.40) is slated to start for New York.

These Players' weekend uniforms they're wearing are the absolute most terrible uniforms I've ever seen:

Nats with another win today.

Nats now 53-26 since May 23, best record in MLB this year. 72-57 for the season with 33 games to go. Go 17-16 and Nats are at 89 wins.... The Mets are the closest team to the Nats- and they would need to go 23-11 to beat them. That seems highly unlikely.

Question RE: 2019 MLB Thread
Braves with another win today.

Braves keep picking up scrubs from other teams and turning them back into players. This time, released Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli has 3 hits to spark the Braves, and ex-Royal Billy Hamilton races around to score a run. Hope we can keep it up tomorrow and sweep the Metz.

Nats and Braves just dominating now and taking the Mets/Phillies out of the conversation for the most part. Phillies now 11.5 back of Braves and 5 of Nats(with only 33 to go), and Mets now 12 back of Braves and 5.5 of Nats(with only 32 to go). getting real late real fast.

Great start to Dodgers-Yankees. Both lead off hitters hit HRs.

can you believe what they said that this was the 4th game this year where that's happened?

That seems nuts but it’s also nuts how badly the HR record will be broken, so maybe the odds aren’t as small as we’d think. Aaaaand Judge just put another one in the stands.

Well the whole starting staff is now gone with Marquez going down. The Rockies will be lucky to get to 70 wins for the season. What a terrible year that was so promising in the spring.

Cardinals staying hot. 9-1 in the 4th tonight. 13-3 in the last 16. Hopefully they don't fade in September like last year.
