Yeah, must be nice to play the easiest schedule ever seen in cusa basketball.

shocker...a mwhiney marshall fan throws out the easiest schedule comment...play your games, my school will play theirs...everything works out in the end.

Yeah, all of our conference's issues should just be responded with "life isn't fair." Great advice, thanks

what's wrong with it? it's true...play the games and win the games...it all works out. don't get the complaining.

Do you see any TX schools playing this many games in a row? I didn't think so. Just start paying attention. Any little edge that could possibly be given always goes to the TX schools.

Yes seriously.

Just like the 2013 CUSA Championship game getting moved.

I'm honestly more upset with the leaders at Marshall to be honest. Sitting around on their hands letting this junk happen.

Because it’s unnecesary. Our players will miss the entire week of classes. In Charlotte today, travel to El Paso tomorrow a day to practice and rest, game Thursday, travel to San Antonio and a game Sat before returning to Norfolk.

Some Marshall fans are still bitter that CUSA let Rice host the football championship against us by a messed up tie breaker. The tie breaker was down to BCS ranking to determine who hosts. Neither team was in the BCS top 25, so CUSA had to “calculate” it. The BCS was 1/3 computer rankings, 1/3 coaches poll, and 1/3 Harris poll. Marshall had votes in both polls and Rice had none but CUSA messed up the way they calculated it and gave way more weight to the computers so Rice won because they were a few spots ahead in the computers. Jeff Sagarin(guy that made BCS system)) said they did it wrong and if they wanted to calculate BCS ratings for non top 25 teams they should have contacted him. CUSA didn’t care and went ahead win Rice hosting.

Then of courae the cupcake OOC.

Home and away should switch going forward and everyone plays thier travel partner twice, which is set. Personally I hope Sanchez turns Charlotte around quickly so we have two decent games every year. Looking at thier recruiting and recent results I’d say that should be the case. North Texas should start scheduling up OOC if they’re going to be contending for sure.

Big time congrats to the Toppers for their win tonight in Diddle Arena. WKU is the only team in CUSA that I am hopeful ODU doesn't have to face again this season. 04-cheers

Because even though you play every team, you do not play every team home and home before the pods. If you get to play all the best teams at home then you basically start with a 1-2 game head start.

If you were as good as the talent on your team says you should be you would be glad to play them away because then they might be tier one wins which they wouldn’t be at home. As it is, this season we’re all just jockeying for the top pod and top seed to give ourselves the best chance at winning the tourney. So homecourt is welcome against better teams. Like I said they should switch next year.

There's a reason that P5 teams don't play CUSA teams at our places. How is it that Wisconsin loses at WKU but beats Michigan at home? How is it that Marshall beats us by 1 in Huntington but loses by 9 in Bowling Green?

Home court matters and it matters a LOT. It matters more in college basketball than in just about any other sport.

And as far as switching next year... players graduate. Teams shift standings. MTSU went from 1rst last year to near the bottom this year. If you had to play MTSU on the road last year but get them at home this year... how is that a fair trade off?

I get the early start for ODU/Charlotte with it being MLK day but seems a tad unfair for those 4 schools playing 3 CUSA in 5 days. Yes i realize it's done for the tournament but for regular season??

I'm told it's a by product of POD scheduling. Previously we didn't all finish our conference games on the same date. The straggler games were usually between travel partners. To schedule POD games we all have to complete the announced schedule at the same time so those stragglers had to be brought forward. CUSA left the scheduling of those games to the travel partners. Sadler and Konkol saw they both had open dates on 12/29 so we started conference play early and got this out of the way.

I think the games you provided as examples just go to show that a lot of our top teams lack consistency (ODU included in that for sure). ODU was also able to go into Syracuse for the win but loses @ FAU.

I will say that home court is probably good for 3-6 points for the home team for sure, depending on who is playing. I'm assuming all the home/away matchups will get flipped next year. It's not perfect, no, but I still think this is better than what we had before.

USM can testify to this. Over the last 2 years (last year and the start of this year) in CUSA play we are 8-3 at home while our road record is 2-12 during that same time frame. And going back the year before that our overall CUSA record at home is 14-6 with our road record falls to 3-20

Thanks for the info. We had a large break in play around XMAS (which turned out to be a good thing as BJ Stith was nursing a shoulder injury). I would think our coaches would have preferred to play Charlotte around then but I haven't looked at their Dec schedule. And not that I'm doubting your sources but I have a hard time believing if it was up to the coaches that we would pick the week we have to travel to West Texas. I could be wrong. Maybe it allows them to get there a day earlier?

Both ODU and Charlotte were both off for close to a week after Christmas but I see where WKU hosted Wisconsin on Sat Dec 29 while Marshall played at Virginia on Monday Dec 31. Charlotte did play in hawaii on the days leading up to Christmas as well as Christmas day (Tuesday) so maybe that was the holdup with them having the travel time adjustment getting back. That week UNT and Rice played each other as did USM and La Tech. Was wondering then why those 4 started CUSA games on Dec 29th while others didn't start until the following Thursday. I guess that explains part of it.

RE: Monday 1/21 basketball games
I was happy to learn that apparently NT controls the league office and gets every advantage. I believe the league will change the location of the ODU game to Denton citing the (NT gets all the break clause) of the conference rules.

ODU and Marshall fans, why so many many negative comments about NT? According to some of you NT has no change against your teams, so why the preoccupation with NT.

As for as the oc schedule, what differences does that make at this point. Exchange the worst 3 teams that NT beat with the best teams Marshall has played and assume NT loss all three. That would give NT a better record than Marshall with a better oc schedule.

This is conference basketball, most of the matches are going to be close and the CUSA regular season and tournament winner will have several league loses.

I don't think ODU fans are negatively complaining about UNT. The handful of comments from ODU fans were about the fact our players losing the entire week since we have to play yesterday. Some of us are very happy for UNT and the season you were having why not? Having more programs that can play some good BB and win games is what we wanted and why would we complain about that.
