RE: QB Shootout at the OK Corral?
It will be very interesting to see how the QB competition will play out. Neither Hammock nor the new OC (Eidsness) seem like they would want a true dual-threat QB type of offense. However, that is what we have on the roster. Even Jiya Wright (who will be a red shirt FR) and Mariano Valenti (who will be a true FR) are both touted as dual-threat QBs. Good coaches adjust to the personnel that they have and I am quite sure that is what we will see, at least until we get the type of QB to fit the offensive philosophy of Hammock and Eidsness, and hopefully a new QB coach. I am expecting a wide open competition for the starting QB job, and I would think the best passer of the bunch (not including Valenti as I would not want a true FR starting QB) will be our starting QB next year.

Move hall to wr, can have the occasional wildcat package. Jet sweeps etc. Then his last 2 years he will be more polished
I hope they open the competition up but between Wright and valenti, one will lose out on a whole lot of playing time though. Why would this kid transfer from u of I? Goto a fcs school and have a better chance.

Hammock said in the press conference is that he will tailor the offense to fit the personnel.

Being a mid-major NIU needs to have a mobile QB to have success IMO.

The SDSU clips I've seen definitely look dual threat oriented. The flavor may favor passing more, but I don't see moving away from dual threat QBs.
Also, Eidsness would be the QB coach, same role he had at SDSU. OC/QB.

Quincy Patterson is the VT QB I'd like in DeKalb. He's good friends with a few current Huskies.

This may be considered heresy by some on this board, maybe by everyone, but I didn't think Jordan Lynch was all that great of a passer. Moore, Lewis, and Brown had a great ability to pull in wild passes. IMHO

I would agree but his throwing was much better than Childers. The problem with Carey is that he believed he could turn any Dual Threat QB into Jordan Lynch. We probably will never see a Jordan Lynch type of player at NIU for a long time.

I disagree, I thought of him as a running quarterback until the Iowa game his senior year which was the first game of thhe year. Anyhow he was pretty darn accurate. Only time he wasn’t would be those games where weather factored in (either extremely cold like vs WMU at home or windy)

He wasn’t, but he threw a really good deep ball and with his running ability that was all he needed to do.

JL was a very efficient passer. His run threat popped guys open deep with safeties providing run support.

RE: QB Shootout at the OK Corral?
Childers is often criticised for his long ball, however someone needs to explain to him that the bounce pass is not a valid strategy in the short passing game.
I do think that he is coachable and that he improved last year having a good game when it counted most in the MAC Championship game. Perhaps with a new QB coach he can make further strides.
Next year should be interesting.

Lynch was a pretty good passer. Not great, but good. Harnish's WRs were at least as good. Moore, Ashford, guys like that helped Harnish out a lot also. Lynch's career completion % was 61.8 vs. Harnish's 61.9, with the yards per attempt not much less.

RE: QB Shootout at the OK Corral?
One thing Lynch did really well was throw to his wideouts on the run. He had a strong, accurate arm for the short sideline passes, bubble screens, etc. Defenses had no choice but to play him honest because he ran so well. Childers has improved in that area, but he's clearly not the same threat to run and those are the passes where he bounces (or sails) too many balls, as bikechuck often points out. Jordan excelled in this area of his game.
