Considering his Dad is a Head Coach at UaB , I'd bet it was Nick.

That's so funny. Actually there are several bright spots in the statistical averages of this new team they are quite athletic, to say the least. Butler is a beast. The guards have a lot of potential. Give them time. They are going to get better as the season progresses.

I thought Nick transferred because he graduated and UAB did not have the graduate degree he wanted to pursue - at least that is what I was told.

Yes, but every other team has the same opportunity to improve throughout the year. This team looks like it could be an all time bottom 5. What we lack in talent we make up for with inexperience and immaturity.

MTSU was playing in and hosting a CUSA championship game. They weren't coming off 2 of their arguably worst football years in school history and getting blown out by Charleston
Apples and oranges. In general, yes, fan apathy for UAB basketball has been getting worse. We also aren't winning big games. No one cares if you're beating 250+ RPI teams. They only care if you lose to them.
The basketball program could really use some new energy behind it

The only thing I’ve read that would help basketball become more successful is better attendance. I don’t think pouring money into football has hurt basketball attendance. Losing and subpar opponents has hurt attendance. It’s a struggle for me, but I make the sacrifice. I can only think the casual basketball fan is waiting on something great to happen.

2 games nope, but 30 over the past 2 probably has.

I will confess I am a long time, diehard UAB football fan who couldn't care less about the basketball team. I'm very sorry for contributing to the basketball team's decline. It's all my fault.

RE: Nick norton -Drake vs North Dakota State
No, losing two games didnt do that. Absolute mediocrity of play with the talent we had the past two years, plus a constant parade of crappy teams coming into Bartow, plus no real signature wins since the ncaa run a few years ago, plus a roster that inspires no hope for the confernece season, plus six wins over nobody teams. And all that within the multi year context of one of the worst basketball conferences in the country.
Here is the key question for this program. What is there for the casual UAB basketball fan to get excited about?
What should be attracting more fams? The talent? The coach? The recent history? Recruiting? The ethos of the program? The effort? The beauty or fun of the system Ehsan runs? The personality of our best player? The concession stands? The rowdy crowds? The popcorn? The halftime shows?
Help me out here. Why would the average Birmingham basketball fan get excited about UAB basketball today?

The long-time fans at least have some great memories of UAB basketball. The kind that can carry you through a lot of lean years. What if you had started following the team in the last ten years? One NCAA win since '06 doesn't buy much as far as fan interest and passion in 2018.

This one for sure. This team has a lot of likable players.

I moved to Birmingham the year that they won over Iowa State. I started following them casually after that and got into them seriously after that. As someone that (I think) meets your criteria, I'll say that I am luke-warm on the season. I'll still be at every game I'm able to go to, but you're right that there's just not much to get excited about.
