RE: Sutton Smith gone?
I'm more inclined to see Smith as an OLB in a 4-3 who doesn't line up over the tackle but plays in space and rushes the qb on blitzes.

Hope it’s not a sign but Sutton received his degree with the other graduates while in Florida. Posted on the NIU Football Facebook.

It means he did graduate, which I think definitely favors, unless someone tells him he really needs another year of bulking up/film, that he'll leave for the draft.

Or become a graduate transfer at a Power 5 school.....that would hurt more than him leaving for the draft.

If you look at it with Sutton’s best interest in mind, here is what you conclude...There is only so much bulking up you can do before you compromise what makes him so special...his speed and athleticism. Another 15 lbs of solid muscle on his 5’11 frame and you start looking like an old school fullback. Staying another year would be outstanding for NIU, but negligible in terms of Sutton’s development. Plus, the minimal status gain is far outweighed by the additional risk. He’s getting married, he has his degree. He’s perfectly positioned for the next career step. Seems like a pretty easy decision.

Oh yeah...that is true, ick that would stink for us. I still think if he can be taken within the 4th round, he'd take that over a grad transfer.

Doubt he goes the Graduate transfer route. JJ proved why that’s a bad idea when you’re a hot NFL prospect. Graduate transferring works best for players trying to get in the spotlight. Everyone knows who Sutton Smith is.

Holding out hope that he comes back but only if that’s what’s best for him. There has been mention of him wanting to set the fbs sack record which I believe is 43. He’s within reach if he wants to pursue it.

RE: Sutton Smith gone?
The fact he is playing in the bowl game this week leads to believe he returns, but who knows?
