It’s perfection to me. If razor were to guarantee we lost every other game so we could win them, he is my favorite dude of the year! It’s only weird if it doesn’t work.

We definitely won’t make the ncaa tourney this year.
You’re welcome!
Thanks Razor. We make a great team!

Razor, I suspect you won't recognize it, but this is such a clear (at least for me) illustration of the non-productiveness of your approach on this forum. Not every thread needs to be about your dismay over Coach Jones. Sometimes it's fun just to savor a win.
My own opinion is that our teams have mostly underperformed under Coach Jones. Given our resources, we should be in the at-large consideration at least every 2-3 years, if not even more regularly. The conference constraints need to be taken into account, but a five-plus-year drought of never being considered even an at-large contender is just too long.
Yet the notion that I can't hold that opinion and still thoroughly enjoy what were three very well-played games -- all of them against traditional rivals -- serves only to undercut your argument. If you insist on making this a choice between enjoying good college basketball or being branded a Jones supporter, count as a reluctant supporter.
I'm not, but you're the one who is insisting on absolute purity of thought from your brethren fans.
I get your point but I don’t necessarily agree with your assertion. I was just being pithy regarding jones and wood, I agree, not everything needs to be about them.
I do enjoy our wins and I do not enjoy our losses just like most fans.
My problem is i am often to focused on the big picture and what another year of good but not good enough really accomplishes........buys Jeff more time to keep being a close but no cigar type of coach.
I am frustrated by this because I think we are capable of much more than having vcu as our “signature win” in the 6 years he’s been our coach.
Hell Rhoades (who many fans here said sucks), has a win over Texas at Texas in year 2 which is better than anything we’ve accomplished in 6 under Jeff.
I enjoy watching us play and win but I also keep the big picture in mind and that rubs some fans the wrong way.
It is what it is I guess.
I agree with Razor on this but I know some of you have your opinions of me too so in his words, it is what it is.
I ABSOLUTELY hate VCU and was pumped we beat them but at the end of the day thats a short sighted goal. I want us to win and win a lot but Im also aware that wins arent just wins. Quality wins are "wins". W's that do nothing for your rankings/ratings among any of the measuring tools are not wins. They're the generic "fan pleaser".
Just because he asked, and I'd like to get others' opinions, what is considered our biggest win under the Jeff Jones era?
LSU, who was better than Texas is this year, in the oversees tournament. LSU was an 8 seed that year. That was also in Jones second year.
VCU was No. 14 when ODU beat them that season and they were a 7 seed in the tournament so that qualifies.

Biggest win in the Jeff Jones era was the Freeman half-court shot that sent us to the NIT Final 4. Second was probably VCU that same year. Kind of hard to put LSU up there... I don't even remember the game and would have to look it up to know where it took place.

It was kind of forgotten about because of it being in the paradise jam. If we went to Baton Rouge and beat them on their home court I'm sure it would be a much memorable win. I'll be honest I forgot about it too until someone brings it up (or the occasional acid flashback) but was definitely a huge win for the program

RE: FECES U Game Discussion
I caught the last 5-6 minutes of the VCU-Texas game when I got home. The end of that game reinforced the fact Shaka could be one of the worst in-game coaches in the country. He’s a good recruiter, great in front of the camera, but horrible during the game. Even the last play, down 1 he didn’t try to attack the basket and crash the boards. Texas had their Super Bowl win over Carolina. They will get chewed up in the B12.

That was an absolutely horrendous set “play”.
I honestly couldn’t believe, with Texas’s athletes, playing at home, and with the refs begging to blow the whistle on any contact, that he drew up a designed kick and drive for a 3 from, I believe, a freshman. YIKES.

Kind of hard to put LSU up there? Why? By name and ranking, it is the best win in the Jeff Jones era. That VCU team was beat at home. LSU was beat at a neutral site.

I didn't say it wasn't up there as the "best" win in terms of degree of difficulty. I said it wasn't up there as the biggest win, insofar as being impactful. It was in November, nobody was there, nobody aside from us was paying attention, and it didn't ultimately get us to the dance. Murray State meant something, was in a packed house, and was all over local news, ESPN, and social media for a week. That was the most impactful win in the era. And if we can't go to the dance, I'll take beating a top 15 ranked VCU team at the Ted over an overrated LSU team in a hotel ballroom in another country any day.

Feces U getting dumped on by the College of Charleston at home.
That's the great thing about beating Feces. It's a win-win.
If they win, it helps us. If they lose, it hurts them. In any case, I smile.

I’m not a gambler, but when I saw that CoC was getting 6 1/2, I told my buddies who are gamblers to take the points. I’ve seen enough of both team to know that VCU was going to struggle with Riller and Brantley.

VCU is offensively challenged especially at the guard spots. Looks like FECESU is headed to the bottom half of the A10.

Have you seen the A10? Richmond lost at home to 3-9 Oral Roberts (after losing to Longwood and Hampton). GW is 3-8 and while a lot of their losses are to solid teams, they've had a lot of trouble even with their low-major opponents. George Mason is a massive disappointment. Rhode Island and Bona have fallen hard from last season. LaSalle is 0-10.
VCU could be the worst VCU team since the days of Mack McCarthy and still finish in the top half of that mess. Unless St. Louis and Davidson run the table and only lose to one another in the regular season and the A-10 final, that's a 1-bid league.

Yeah I am not surprised about this result but mostly because college of Charleston is a REALLY good mid major basketball team.

Richmond looks bad this year (Didn't they lose their best player for the season with injury?)
However, that building has been a house of horrors for some very good ODU teams. We never play well there.
Better be ready to go after the high from today's win.

You are correct. A lot better odu teams than this one have gone to Richmond and left with a L.
After the high we just experienced, Jeff will have to earn all of his salary to keep this team up and motivated to bring it against Richmond.

ODU football was winless heading into the VT game. ODU basketball won its last five games heading into the Syracuse game. Always a risk of overlooking the next opponent, but while Richmond has lost to some truly wretched teams, they did beat Wake Forest and nearly beat Georgetown, which isn't half as impressive as it sounds but they're still good performances against schools we've heard of, so caveat emperor, Monarchs.
I suspect they'll win ugly but comfortably. Like 61-48.
