Toews, Taylor, Fornes, Cylla, Cacok seem like a lock to start.
Brown, Gasden, Estime and O'Connell the next four.
Gary shot ok but isn't a point guard. Sims looks a lot like Estime' did last year.
Kalina looked awful
Overall the team looked really good. Starting five should be able to hang with anyone in the CAA. Toews really brings out the best of everyone on the floor. Taylor put up 17 and I didn't even notice. Fornes was far more under control on the drive than last year. For the first time i've seen in awhile, Cacok was matched in strength in the post by Clemson. Doesn't happen often. Still a beast though.
Allowing myself some excitement and thoughts of exceeding expectations. Top 4 seems doable.

O'Connell or Cyllal didn't impress too much. Towes is good.

I think Cylla’s range is very important and will allow Carol to play as a true center at times this year. His control and patience with the ball on offense impressed me, especially compared to last year with Marcus Bryan. I definitely think we upgraded at the PF. O’Connell’s value won’t be in his offense, he didn’t produce much at Georgia Southern but still started for them (I think).

I thought Sims looked really good for a Freshman. He's a lot longer than Estime and has good defensive instincts. He had a couple nice blocks. I'd like to see him in the second group.
I wasn't there but from everything i'm hearing and reading it sounds like a great showing. Looks like we have a lot to be excited about with Cylla and Towes!
Hard to really have a good take on the team with only listening to the audio stream. The clips Alex tweeted of Toews were impressive. Listened to CBs post-game with Vaccaro and sounded like we struggled with the zone in the 2nd half, if we don't consistently knock down 3s this year I'd imagine we'll see a good amount of zone to defend Cacok. CB also noted that Cacok needs to get deeper in the post to allow players to get open on the 3 point line, as well as more effort by everyone on the offensive rebounding end. He sounded pretty disappointed in their 2nd half performance tbh. 1st (exhibition) game though, a lot to look forward to this season for sure.

While 3's are certainly an issue, Boxing out in a zone is the toughest thing to do, not sure it helps to contain Cacock

True, either way he's going to see a lot of double, even triple teams in the post. Gonna need everyone to be more consistent from 3 this year.

He's going to see double and triple teams until he makes them pay for it by finding the open man/men.

If the open players hit the shots, it's gonna put opposing teams in a "pick your poison" type situation. Try to handle DC15 one on one in the post or leave someone wide open for a 3...
I agree that Cacok has to move the ball out of the double quicker but he needs better options to make it happen. If you feed the post with a 5-8 point guard who can’t shoot and he just stands there what is Cacok supposed to do with the ball. Gotta feed with a guy that shoot it over a guard and that is simple math. Cacok was also getting pushed up the floor and stopped in the lane by 2 guys so I am not sure what he can with that. Clemson has bugs that are strong and physical and they did exactly what Brad wanted them to do.
Overall the team looked very good and played with some passion that was not there last year. I liked what I saw from most players excluding Kalina and Elmore. At this point I am not sure why Elmore is still hanging around,he looks like he could careless about playing.

I think it's way to early to be critical of Elmore, especially after the knee surgery. We haven't seen him enough to say he could care less.... In regards to the options, I agree with you to an extent. I don't think Jacque Brown is going to be the guy Cacok kicks out to much though. It's going to be guys like Fornes, Taylor, Cylla that need to knock down those shots. If Toews can show that he can consistently be a threat from outside, he could cause real problems for other teams. Gary and Estime are going to have to do those same things when they come in as well. I gave up on Gary being a PG last season. If he can come in for spurts and be a sharpshooter, there is going to be a nice role for him on this team.

I think it's all but clear who our PG is. Yes, it's a one game sample... but geez. Toews is going to have growing pains, like any true freshman but he is going to be a serious problem for defenses. I saw some posts from the in-game portion of this thread referencing his 3 fouls in the first half. That's the one thing he's really going to have to get accustomed to in this league. Playing defense without fouling. Really excited to have him as the guy we're giving the keys to. Personally, I think McGrath hit a grand slam getting him to UNCW.
Hoops, I agree on Gary.
Also... I agree with ya'll above too. I just don't see Jacque or Gary being anything other than role players for when Toews needs a break. I know it's early. Just think that's the way this plays out.

One of Toews' fouls was an offensive foul. He made a pass after dribbling through a group of defenders, then ran into a Clemson player and got called for the offensive foul. Just a case of him being so active and moving so quickly he's running into guys.
