RE: Clemson preview
We scored 49 points in the first half. Clemson was double and sometimes triple teaming Cacok, and others were making them pay for it by hitting their shots. Clemson adjusted at halftime and layed off of Cacok enough to defend our shooters.
Overall, I don't remember a Hawk team coming out in their first exhibition game and not show so much rust. I was impressed with how we played so well together as a team. Especially with so many new faces. We just can't come out to start the second half by no scoring in the first 6+ minutes. That was a killer. But credit to Brownell for making the adjustments at the half.

Really wish I could've seen the game. Hard to pick up on these kind of things listening to audio only. Brownell has the athletes to risk defending Cacok one on one. I don't think anyone in the CAA really does, maybe W&M but even I think that's a stretch. The 21 turnovers is a bit concerning, I really hope that is a result of rust because that's a number I could go without seeing again this season.

Clemson was forcing a lot of problems that caused turnovers more than just mental mistakes by us. And as Toews gets comfortable as our starting PG, given his skillset, he can help reduce the turnovers too.

But even saying that, I expect turnovers might be a problem we'll be dealing with for much of the season. We know Jaylen turns the ball over a lot, and has been doing so before C.B. arrived. It just comes with the territory with his style of play. And other guys on the team sometimes have the "turnover bug".

The key is just to make sure we still play "our style" of offense while reducing turnovers as much as possible. And if we DO turn the ball over, make sure the defensive effort and intensity is constantly up so we're minimizing the damage of those turnovers.

Ultimately I liked a lot of what I saw on Saturday. If we can operate like we're playing Clemson every game and "get up" for our opponents, we'll have a great season.

Toews is going to have growing pains, like any true freshman but he is going to be a serious problem for defenses. I saw some posts from the in-game portion of this thread referencing his 3 fouls in the first half. That's the one thing he's really going to have to get accustomed to in this league. Playing defense without fouling. Really excited to have him as the guy we're giving the keys to. Personally, I think McGrath hit a grand slam getting him to UNCW.

One of Toews' fouls was an offensive foul. He made a pass after dribbling through a group of defenders, then ran into a Clemson player and got called for the offensive foul. Just a case of him being so active and moving so quickly he's running into guys.
Brad's teams are also notorious for taking charges, so there's that

As much as i credit BB, i'm hopeful it's not a sign of things to come. We had good first halves last year and opposing coaches made adjustments, we struggled making adjustments.

That said, I'm extremely positive of the firepower we appear to have this year!

To be fair about Elmore I think I was shocked at how he looked physically more so than how he played. He played very briefly and certainly not enough to judge how he might have played at all. The way his body looks is more of the could less deal-we shall see about him.I do think he looked very much out of shape compared to all the other players from both teams. I also like Brown and Gray off the bench as backups they should be solid.

It would be great to see Elmore get more minutes against Peace.

Who knows how much conditioning he's been able to do with the injuries... I'm still hopeful... I know some people have been really high on his jumpshot. I haven't seen much of him other than some of his high school tapes on youtube. Which are three years old at this point...

Even though Elmore didn't play much, he made a difficult catch and score in traffic on a dump pass from possibly Teows from the top of the key. And while it's hard to tell from such a small sampling, he looked a lot more confident than he did all of last year.

He looked lost to me but I have never been sold on him as a CAA level talent. Maybe he can get healthy and make a few jump shots!

I guess time will tell Mullet. I know it must be hard on him to be cleared from surgery just to get injured again. According to the coach he is no longer injured. I guess the other thing to note is the fact that he hardly played in his Freshman season so he definitely will need some court time to get the feel of the game. Luckily we have the depth to afford him that.
