No. But he's our head coach and while he is EXTREMELY frustrating at times - the entire coaching staff is- they are our coaches and I will always support the program no matter what. Especially the 100 or so young men that lay it on the line every week for NIU Football. They put in hours in the weight room, in the fill room, on the practice field, in the classroom, etc. I will always tune in and cheer on our Huskies! Yes, the glory days of Jordan Lynch are gone. We are in a new era. Lets help this squad write their own story. The HARD WAY IS THE ONLY WAY.

Beat EMU!!!!

This is my kind of fan...I second your mindset

We need more like us!!! Lets watch our dogs hit someone on Saturday and get a MAC win!! The game is won and loss in the trenches-I'm a firm believer of that! Hopefully the coaches come up with a solid gameplay (run, run, run) and our hogs execute!!

BEAT EMU

So there's a chance that the light goes on for Childers in this game - and there were a few plays in the last game - where we see more consistency and maybe an offense that isn't so anemic. I think he'll still need to hit a deep pass or 2 before the offense starts to really work.

Prior to the season most reasonable prognosticators had us at 1-3 at this point and here we are. Yes, the offense is concerning since it has topped out at mediocre but let's see how they do the rest of the way. I believe there's enough talent on this team to beat every MAC opponent they face. If that or close to it doesn't happen then the criticism is warranted.

Regarding recruiting, there's no question this staff didn't recruit very well in its first few years. Recruiting seems to have taken a substantial upswing in the last few cycles. Unfortunately we are still dealing with some weaknesses that were in the pipeline as well as attrition like booting three corners off the team (Cassius Grady, Dexter Warren, Daniel Isom) and all the QBs who decommitted or left. (Before you get started on Santa, note that he threw 4 INT's vs. EKU on Saturday. His carelessness with the ball is what got him benched and that doesn't seem to have been fixed at SEMO. He may have been better than Childers but maybe not.) Those things have left some holes in the roster. I am encouraged by the '18 and projected '19 recruiting classes. If they keep going at that level things will be much better.

Starting this week at EMU our team needs to throw the ball. Like the first 20 plays from scrimmage. Every team is packing the box and will continue until we make them stop. EMU has a good defense and we will not run on them until we make them respect the pass.
Childers threw well in the second half. Sure, he was 50% but his receivers did him no favors. Several bad drops, and no running game to get the defense honest. Plus, no interceptions despite the pressure and a great passing TD called back.

If Rod and crew get out of the way and get back to MACtion we may seem some spark out of the offense. If the O improves our already stout D will get better just because of field position and rest factor.

What would Childers' completion percentage have been if not for the dropped passes? I don't remember how many there were.

Tears had two I remember. One would have been a first down when we couldn't get one it seemed like.

As a side note & dream could you imagine of Kelly Bryant transferred here in our offense.

Tears had a couple and DJ had a couple. Childers also missed four wide open receivers. Two would have been TDs that would have given us a chance.

You should think of these kids each time you wish ill on this program so that you can have your Ws.

Maybe STF should consider the kids, too, and get rid of Carey in June. Carey is ruining their talents.

Silly comment...

To the OP, Im not sure fans have become apathetic towards NIU football as much as many have become apathetic towards this board, I know I have. Same 10 people saying the same thing...it gets old.

Last home game I was heckling Carey louder than anyone in that stadium and would love to seem him replaced but people here have lost all objectivity and ts ridiculous.

The first half against CMU and the first quarter against FSU were some of the worst football I have seen at NIU in a very long time, however they did beat CMU and had the PLAYERS executed they may have beat FSU. For the team to turn around their play in both games says as much about the coaching as does their horrible effort in the first quarter/half.

As easy as it is to blame Carey, the play calling put them in a position where if they execute they win at FSU and against Utah. What I also find funny is that when NIU was beating Nebraska, playing OSU to the wire, etc. it was his MAC record that mattered, now it seems to be the OOC record that matters. When all is said and done its MAC play that truly matters, P5 wins are nice, and Carey has had quite a few.

Things were not always rosy prior to Carey...People here seem to forget the pasting NIU took from WI and the horrible loss to a pathetic Kansas team under DD in 2011 or the loss to a really bad Iowa team in 2012.... What about Kill playing Grady over Harnish against ISU, or going for 2 in the first quarter(wtf) against Illinois?

I saw enough improvement in Childers to say that NIU should still win the west, in fact with the talent on this team, if Carey does not finish 1 or 2 in the MAC West he should be let go, but he wont be.

If all I do is look at the Huskies, I would agree with you, but EMU looks like they have improved even more. EMU could win the West.

Can anyone in the MAC beat Buffalo?

Childers was starting to hit receivers and move the ball in the fourth quarter vs FSU. Maybe that is a sign of things to come. Yes, the game was over by then and FSU was playing their bench and allowing short yardage, but the FSU bench is like a starting D in the MAC.

I graduated in '77 and have never been apathetic about my Huskies. Living a long way from DeKalb keeps me at a distance but hasn't dulled my hope for an undefeated conference season and a bowl game win. I AM, however, pretty damn apathetic about our head coach. Next season? Someone with some game smarts to go with better interaction with the team (and fans) is worth a long look if we lose in the MAC.

The orange bowl team with doeren coaching it would maybe get 1 win with this ooc schedule. Bit way more off than we can chew.
