But history will be much kinder to him than it will to any of the Obama/Clinton swamp creatures. The media's willingness to cover for this stunning collection of skunks and snakes will at some point run out. But the stench of their underhanded abuse of public office will follow them forever.
I wish I could agree with you on the bolded part, but, as the saying goes, history is written by the victors and I don't believe that the principles upon which this country was founded and that made this country great for so many years will prevail in the end. The siren song of free stuff is just too great and the demographics are slowly changing in favor of even more free stuff.
To me, our country, our republic, is actually much like a patient dying of terminal cancer. I was sure when Obama won a second term, that it was all over with at that point, that there would be no coming back. Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, came the Magnificent Orange Bastard.
I'm reminded of both my father-in-law and my dad, both of whom died of cancer. In their last days, in order to avoid suffering, both were put on morphine and basically became unconscious for several days. Then as the families gathered and waited quietly for the end to come, suddenly, almost miraculously, each awoke, alert, smiling, and spent several amazing hours talking with their families, reliving memories, laughing, and most importantly, saying things that had been left unsaid but needed to be said, coming to terms, accepting reality.
In my view, Trump has brought the country from the very brink of disaster that socialism, the cancer of all societies, was about to inflict upon us. America suddenly awoke, looked around, smiled, laughed, and began reliving the memories of what made us great.....reminding us all of what it is to be a great country, how we did it, why we did it, and what it meant to be an American.
Trump will get a second term and continue to breathe life into the country but after he's gone I don't hold out much hope that what he started can be continued.
Sorry to be so dour.
Wow, TechRocks, this is both extremely well written and utterly depressing. +2.
I don't believe that we as a nation are on life support. I think that the free-stuff approach of the Obama administration, which has been taken up several notches by the Sanders/Ocasio-Cortez flirtation, will not ultimately retain any real traction with our millennials. It's all fun and games while mom and dad are paying the bills, but this latest generation will gradually wake up to the fact that the bigger bill is being passed along to them.
It won't be Donald Trump who does it. He has neither the brains nor the interest in doing so. But I do think that the next administration (Haley/Sasse, please lord) will finally be the ones to take on entitlements and get us back to being a self-sufficient nation.
Trump is a necessary dose of medicine -- a powerful bowel cleanser for our post-Obama nation. But he is not the ultimate solution.
I want to believe you're right, but I'm afraid the numbers are working against it.
Black American voters have for so long been tied to the dim party and their policies, that one would believe there's no hope to ever get them turned around. And for the great majority of them, that may still be the case. But as I've said elsewhere, blacks need only support pubs a few percentage point higher than normal in order to make a real difference in national elections.
It's the latino vote that concerns me. Why, you might ask.
Aside from being the fastest-growing demographic in the country, culturally, I believe that latinos are even more tied to the concept of socialist government being a good thing.
Please. Do not be confused by what I'm saying.
While blacks have been overwhelmingly supportive of socialist policies on the part of democrats, those American-bred socialist policies actually pale in comparison to full-blow socialist government policy to which most Latinos are accustomed. If you have never lived, worked, and tried to earn a living south of the US border, you probably have no clue what I'm trying to say.
Never underestimate the importance the of culture.
I have worked and traveled extensively in rural Mississippi for example, and while the majority of those areas are dominated by Black Americans, it's America in every way shape and form culturally.
Cross the tiny Rio Grande River and you enter another world culturally. That's what I'm talking about.
Hope I explained it well.
Donald Trump is unique in American presidential history. He's probably the closest thing we've ever had to an actual third party candidate. He's conservative, but not necessarily pub or dem. He's pro-America, yes, a populist, but many voters get the impression he speaks from his heart about wanting to improve their lot in life. Because I believe he's unique in our history, I just don't see anyone filling his shoes when he's done.
There's a very valid reason why we used to assimilate immigrants. It was to make them American.
The American Citizens Handbook, first published by the NEA (believe it or not) in the 1940s, "tells the story of what it means to be an American in order to educate young people and immigrants on why its a treasured title to be called an American citizen."
Quote:Introduction:
"It is a high privilege to be a citizen of the United States. There are those in less fortunate circumstances who would gladly give all they possess for the mere chance to come here to live."
Quote:Forward:
"To be a good father, mother, brother, sister, or friend;
To be a dependable, faithful, and skilled worker in home, school, field, factory, or office;
To be an intelligent, honest, useful, and loyal citizen, with faith in God and love of fellowman;
To recognize the brotherhood of man and to live by the Golden Rule –
These are the aspirations that have brought happiness and achievement to the America we all love. These are the aspirations that must help us find our way to new glory and grace in the midst of worldwide change. A great civilization must have roots in the soil of the past and its branches reaching to the stars of the future. Otherwise, it lacks the experience and motive necessary for noble achievement in the present. Has the nation lost its way? Let us return again to the faith of its youth. This faith is found at its best in the lives and writings of great leaders who have quickened and purified the national spirit."
Now, we no longer aspire to bring immigrants into the fold and join the wonderful community of America.
The radical liberal left constantly attack America as evil and tell those immigrating here that they should demand changes in "that which is America".
To me, I can't think of too many actions which are more traitorous.
