Sometimes the derailment is short lived and easier to split, with obvious beginnings and ends. Others, like this one, have multiple redirections and it's hard to pinpoint what really slung it so far off course.

Personally, I understand and enjoy threads veering into different topics. It's a natural transition of a conversation. But I will keep cleaning them up for those who only want the topic listed in that thread title.

Is this where I start posting from my other accounts? Or is that reserved for recruiting threads?

How many accounts does one need to get a tailgate spot?

Do aggregate post counts award any benefit? A fan needs to know.

1.) Burner accounts are explicitly to be used when discussing in game, hot seat and recruiting threads. Remember to switch from your main account before agreeing with your initial post.

2.) This depends. Young alums get one with just 2. Standard alums and fans need 10. Send your ODAF number and proof of burner account ownership to the mods.

3.) This kind of goes against the purpose of a burner account. But we will take it under consideration at our next quarterly moderator meeting and report back in our newsletter. Remember to sign up for the newsletter.

It really is like that. I can check the forum in the morning. Then check at lunch and there is a little side topic then in the afternoon it's full blown chaos and by then it's impossible to go back and unwind. People get upset when they click the thread thinking it's recruiting and I get that. But you all have the power to fix that. If you see something going off the rails don't reply. Immediately go start a new thread in Off-Topic (which never gets used).

It's all of you retired people co mingling with the students that have all day to post that make it hard on us mods that aren't. =] Get a hobby!!!

To be honest, I'm overjoyed that someone on this board hasn't responded while in an argument with the newly popular (at least on Facebook and Twitter) rebuttal of "BOT!!".

Bots rule. We ran bots on efnet channels 20+ years ago and would have them help us do dos attacks on other channels bots and while they were down we'd attack mods of those channels and take over. It was like playful "hacking" back in the wake 90s. We'd write the bots to respond to specific commands and look for words in the channel to do tasks and keep things uber control. That was fun times.
