The same old tired misinformation from some and the same old we haven't been dancing from others. So before you start calling me names and saying ugly things about me. Here is some actual real news. The big boy from LSU is going to start and play probably half the game. Maybe a little bit more . We are actually going to play a lot more zone this year. All 3 freshmen are going to play( no redshirts) The bigger of the 2 freshmen forwards is going to start. The slender one is going to play in the rotation. The Pitt transfer is going to play the 2 spot and point guard. Caver is going to play point guard but will also play the 2 spot. The Pitt kid is the quickest kid on the floor...no comparision BJ is going to rotate between the 3 and 4 spots. Green is going to be 6th man. Wade is going to also figure in the rotation at the 2 and 3 spot. Yes Carver will play but only limited minutes . He is good on defense . No offense what so ever.
I am sure some of you by now are chomping at the bit to say I forgot about the other 7 footer. Until he is declared eligible ( which does not look promising ) he does not figure in the rotation. If and it is a big if he is cleared to play he will play ….a lot. He is a player. So, let the posturing begin.Back to the playground with the I did...you did not..did too!!!

I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

The fact remains though that if Dickens can’t play this year, we are most likely once again not an NCAA tourney team.

Agree or disagree?

And still they shy away from answering in a simple "agree or disagree"

I think the majority agrees...just too chicken **** to let it be known after they've slobbed all over Jeff Jones.

So, I accounted for historical data (frankly irrelevant to high school recruits) and facilities. What other factors did I miss to make the comparison wildly inaccurate?

ODU is historically a strong mid-major program that had a flamboyantly aberrant bad season. Rice is historically one of the weakest programs in Division 1. All ODU needed to be respectable was a sober coach -- hell's bells, Corrigan took that 2-21 team and went 3-3 in his six games with them. Rice needed a roster overhaul and a sea change in culture. It was a far easier task to get ODU above .500 than it was to get Rice there.

You dismiss the historical data as being irrelevant to recruits but I don't think that's the case. Kids don't have to be hardcore history buffs to know when a team's been good for a while and when it hasn't. Plus those bad seasons don't take place in a vacuum. Rice has been very poor for a very long time and that's attributable to a number of factors that don't immediately go away even if you put a Hall of Fame coach on the bench. Little support from the administration, inadequate facilities, no culture of success -- they're all force multipliers that feed off one another and make getting out of the gutter exponentially more difficult.

We'll never know this, of course, but I suspect if you sent JJ to Rice and Rhoades to ODU, the records would be about the same. ODU would have made a nice improvement with an able-bodied coach, and Rice would been in the first stages of a multiple-season restoration project.

In terms of cleanup: ODU basketball after the Blaine implosion was a bathroom with a clogged toilet that overflowed. Rice basketball was a Superfund site.

You can't really believe this.

There is a reason the historical comparisons don't match up, and that is all the advantages that ODU has over Rice when it comes to being a highly competitive basketball program.

It took a year where the coach was too drunk to even coach during games to bring ODU down to Rice's level. That alone should tell you how different the two programs are.

That website is a blog about the state of Virginia's basketball programs. Not exactly a newsworthy source. And of course, some people still refuse to believe that not all wins are created equal. Keep your heads in the sand, I guess it must be pretty nice down there in the dark.

Technically we're the 7th winningest program just in conferences with Virginia teams (ACC, A10, Big South, CAA, CUSA, MEAC and SoCon).

If you click the hyperlink in the blog post it will lead you to the tweet below that shows we have the 27th most wins in the country in that span.

This tweet was discussed thoroughly when it was made in May with some defending the program's right to puff their chest about what they've accomplished and some reminding others that it amounted to 0 trips to the dance and was built with a lot of weak opponents;

It’s always interesting how one of the other logins chimes in with support. The effort to change the writing style isn’t fooling anyone.

Ya, if that were the case we would have tracked that with the IPs unless someone is literally using multiple internet connections and proxy servers in different regions just to do that on this forum. If they are going through that much trouble they can have at it.

RRM posts a thoughtful and non-combative post and asks agree or disagree and you guys then troll him. Model the behavior you expect and reward the behavior you see. Otherwise you're no better.

You can't honestly believe that BT being drunk was the only hinderance to the program. Marquel Delancey was one of our best players. Think about that very hard. Marquel Delancey. He was awful. He was one of the best players on that roster. That didn't happen overnight. That wasn't because BT had let go of the wheel for just one season. The demise of ODU basketball is well documented on this board at that time.

Historical success really doesn't mean much to players. They start following college basketball probably when they're Sophomores or Juniors enough to even know that ODU exists (unless they grew up in Hampton Roads). We don't stand out relative to Middle Tennessee State who we've had much more success over the last three decades--but all that matters to recruits is what they've accomplished the last decade. At the time that JJ started here, we didn't really stand out relative to Rice. Both programs were pretty dang bad.

BTs recruiting suffered because word got out that he was an alcoholic. He even showed up at recruiting events drunk. Once that happened parents and coaches weren't too keen on sending players to him, and if a player saw him hammered on a recruiting visit I cant blame them for saying no thanks either. So yes, most of BTs issues on the court are related to his drinking.

DeLancey was our best player? Not even close. The year JJ took over he had Keenan Palmore, Aaron Bacote, Richard Ross, Ambrose Moseley, Denzel Taylor, and Dmitri Batten. I could go the year before that with most of those guys, and throw in Deshawn Painter. The year before that was Chris Cooper, Kent Bazemore, and Trian Illiadis. DeLancey was never one of our best players.
