Make no mistake JMUNation is not showing up in Norfolk for a band competition.
I’m literally attending mainly because of the band. Make no mistake. I’m showing up for the zero quarter/halftime/5th quarter.
Also, what college band competitions are there? I’m pretty knowledgeable about band, but have never heard of a college marching band competition. Care to enlighten me on this reference? Otherwise, it sounds like you were being a condescending meathead, although pretty thickly veiled.
Always happy to enlighten since it seems you are not as well knowledgeable as you seem to portray. The links below should help you soak up the college band experience.

Oh an by the way, if you are showing up for the zero quarter/halftime/5th quarter as you claim how many times have you been to a NSU football game in the past. The band is there every home football game every year.
Not trying to be condescending about the band, I appreciate and enjoy what those kids so. They are very skilled musicians. I just think the band talk was getting a little carried away is all.
With absolute respect, your original post came across as though you were speaking for all fans attending the game donning purple and gold. We each have our thoughts on the intriguing factors drawing us to the NSU stadium the second week of CFB season. Making a statement as though you are the voice for JMU Nation can be offensive especially when not correct.
For me personally, this is more of an event collective of many factors. Rest assured, many people come to BFS to see the MRD's and a football game just happened to take place. My daughter is a perfect example of this. It's taken a lot of effort for her to understand the game of football and have her attention throughout all four quarters. It took no effort for her to make sure we entered the gates of BFS soon enough as to not miss the MRD'S come down Champions Drive and enter the stadium as we watched from the stair railing above. Just as the Band leaves their endzone seating, she makes her way to a special spot against/under the pressbox where she prepares herself for the halftime program. To even suggest she attends for the football is only a dream of mine.
Gotcha....of course there was some hyperbole, it is a fan message board.
That being said without a football game scheduled/going on there would not be any band(s) to watch at NSU or in BFS for MRDs. I appreciate them, I see the MRDs come in every game and watch them every halftime. They are entertaining. My daughter is 10 and likes the puppy pound activities and pregame activities that the athletics department does before home games ( I guess on Hanson field now).....but without a game going on we would not be trekking 1.5 hours on a Saturday for a petting zoo and some face painting/stickers with the cheerleaders either. There are a lot of activities that go on that surround a football Saturday at campuses all over America....but without an actual football game not too many of these other activities would be going on. Right or wrong the football game in the reason for all the other activities. That is all I was saying. Enjoy your game-day experience how you all see fit.
But I guess no one should ever use JMUNation in a comment again b/c as was pointed out to me.....no one can speak for JMUNation.

RE: Game 2 at Norfolk State
For clarity, two of those links are about exhibitions (Honda & that thing in Allentown), not competitions. I’ve been to Honda twice and it’s a blast. I typically go to Charlotte every year for the Queen City BOTB, again, not a competition despite being billed as a “battle”. Competitions mean scoring and winners/losers. Happy to educate you as it seems your googling wasn’t matched by any knowledge or understanding.
That National Comp got started 1 or 2 years ago & it’s laughable which groups attend. But you are the best kind of correct (technically correct) because it is a competition as far as I understand. I apologize because you were right & I was wrong.
Now on to your fallacy about marching bands existing entirely as a supplement to football. WRONG. Check out Talladega College. No football, still got a marching band. Check out the Ann Richards School for Women Leaders in Austin. No football, still got a marching band. Once again, the best kind of correct is technically correct, so I eagerly await your apology for being super wrong just like I was regarding college marching competitions.
Ive seen NSU’s band in a number of settings, including football games. Not sure what you thought you were proving there, but you were wrong.
Snarky comments aside, I don’t understand your decision to post that. You thought the conversation was straying too far? You just come off like a HS meathead who wants to put nerds in their place. You could have just not participated in the thread or brought it back on-topic with football oriented discussion. You decided to condescend (like a 15yo trying to impress his friends) and I’m gonna call you on it.

Between marching bands and starting QB polls offending people these boards are about usless anymore. Never seen it so bad. All I know on this game is I expect it to be under control by midway in the second quarter and to see a lot of the young guys in the second half.

I invite everyone who’s mad about this super-active NSU game discussion veering towards marching band to suck ‘em.

My bad yall. Seeing the Legion vs the MRD has been a dream of mine since I first walked into The Legion's bandroom in 99. I hoped it was finally happening this year. I know who will win the game, so I had to find something for me.[/align]

Booman, would love to tailgate with you or say hello at the game. Don’t let the meatheads get to you. I was disappointed the meeting didn’t happen in Hburg last year too.

Seriously bud, it was a very simple comment that you seem to have taken waaay out of proportion.....sorry that I so easily offended you. Not even sure how I ever really slighted anyone, oh well.

Yes, you totally don’t get it. While you make attempts at emasculating comments that somehow are connected to marching band. You’re being dishonest. I don’t appreciate Wear Purple’s comments either, but he gets a pass because it’s constant cheap jokes from him & I don’t think he meant anything by it.

I’ve been to Dick Price stadium. You will be able to sit wherever you want with the exception of the small Spartan booster seating. Think of it as an overgrown high school stadium that has way more seats than Norfolk State can fill.
Buy a cheap ticket.
Also, since it is a night game you might consider parking in downtown 2 miles away so you can pregame and postgame indulge at many watering holes while taking the light rail to campus. If you drive to the game, find a way to park ON campus. If you can’t, do not park adjacent to campus on a side street. You may be missing some wheels or the entire vehicle.
I have not taken the light rail before. Where do you go to catch the light rail and does it go straight to the stadium or is there a lot of walking? I will be coming from the Williamsburg area

Google The Tide (light rail in Norfolk) and can give you all the details. There is a NSU stop and plenty of other stops.
