True, but it's perhaps the 1,000th most expensive thing we spend money on. Maybe if it were legal and taxed rather than illegal and policed, we could address some of the other issues better? Not arguing with you because you didn't go that far, but pointing it out.

Issue 1 is defining 'stoned'... If it's legal but you can still be fired or denied work because of it, it's a problem.
Issue 2 is reigning in the chemical manipulation/labeling... need to know what you're smoking.

Never thought of issue 2. That is a very good point.

This is heroin

This is morphine

This is oxycontin

vicodin

To me the sticking point is that we basically have people dying from opioids narrowly derived from one of the most insidious and dangerous illegal drugs there is, while marijuana is clearly the better choice.

And marijuana isn't harmless, but it's a teddy bear compared to heroin.

RE: Do You Believe marijuana Should be Legal
I was against it for a long time - it was too much like tobacco smoking to me, but in today's society it is no different than alcohol was back in the 70's/80's. I would say treat it like alcohol (age and tax) and be done with it.

Why demonize something that is so out there in the public space at this point. It is like gambling.... it's illegal but everybody does it. Only the egregious offenders get nailed, otherwise people tend to turn the other cheek for the most part. I hate to say it, but if you can't bet em'.... join em'

CBD oil? Sure.

Flowers to pack the bowl? I prefer limited to adults that are able to support themselves. Either way, I really don't care that much, but I prefer my son not be able to go into 7-Eleven and buy weed until the point that he has accumulated enough responsibility that he cannot afford to be high all day everyday. I prefer he not be able to go into 7-Eleven and buy it at 18 years old when he should be in school, growing his network, and chasing skirts. At least if it is illegal and he wants to smoke it, it requires a bit of networking and social interaction to get it in the first place.

This is the main difference between child and adult pot smokers from my experience. Maybe it is due to the socioeconomic class I managed to find myself in, but adult pot smokers I know tend to be responsible with it while the kids I knew growing up that smoked it were almost universally burnouts that showed up to school high and then smoked at lunch and then smoked immediately after school. I don't know any adults that are high all day unless they are on vacation.

Fair points all.

CBD oil is what I was referring to. That seems to be the answer (with or without THC) for kids with seizures, etc.

I have zero problem with requiring recreational users to be of a certain age...brain development-wise it should be as late as possible, but we all know that won't keep kids from smoking prior to that.

people dont deserve t got go to jail for having weed...now if someone does something stupid while being high that is a different story. But we are spending to much money on housing criminals that were just smoking a plant.

People get fired for being drunk on the job, no difference. If I was a business owner I would never hire a drunk or pothead knowingly.

As for medical purposes, get it from a pharmacy via prescription by a real doctor, not those phonies at the pot shop.

This position is the problem though....

You can drink all weekend long and come into work on Monday and not 'test positive'.
You can smoke weed on Friday and go into work A WEEK LATER on Monday and not remotely be 'under the influence', but still test positive.

Until we establish what it means to be 'under the influence of pot', the ANY casual user is potentially a pot-head... while someone who drinks 4 beers a day every day after work and 10 per day on weekends, but doesn't go to work drunk is an upstanding citizen.

I don’t think we need any more “research”, we’ve had more than a hundred years of evidence, and we’ve ALL been around it enough to make our own decisions.

Just make it decriminalized, no need to lock up a bunch of potheads, but as said above, keep it out of my (public) face, do what you do on your deck or your living room, and don’t then drive or do anything dumb. Like show up to your job delivering pizzas stoned.

Exactly. I can't tell you how many times I have been held up going 23 MPH on the interstate behind some stoner dude. [/sarcasm]

Seriously though, one time when I was about 20 (30 years ago), I got high with some friends before we went to a party. We had never been there, and were just going by directions. At one point, after making a right hand turn I was supposed to turn right again on the third street. I was driving so slow (thought I was driving normally) that I got to a point where I had lost my count of streets and was sure the street I had just passed was the street I was supposed to turn on (this was at night). "No problem" I thought. "I'll just turn around at the next street and come back." As I neared the next street and looked at the street sign, I realized THAT was the street I was originally supposed to turn right on.

I probably averaged 1/2 the speed limit all the way there, and thought I was FLYING.

People who have never been stoned don't understand. It's not like being drunk.
