Yeah, another guy with absolutely no D-1 coaching or recruiting experience. Let's get real, people.
Do you really think he would not get us into more recruits living rooms? He would not be the head coach. Doubtful anyone else would know more about pitching.
It was a little tongue in cheek...

But agreed, his HS connections in Texas are probably less than Pope’s.
Question (Owl1998 would probably know this well): Isn’t recruiting done more through select ball than HS these days?
Most recruiting is done through select ball, yes. However, most select ball coaches are also high school coaches. Pope has an excellent reputation amongst HS and select coaches. His record of building a literal dynasty in Cy Ranch is probably good enough to have him elected into the THSCA Hall of Honor someday. I really like Janish a lot. But to answer the question about him already having some sort of relationship with current commits, in short...he doesn’t. Pope and Kopysinski did all of the communication with recruits. Janish, I assume, will have to begin touching base with those recruits that were very attached to Pope.
I’m telling you guys....the kids and parents I deal with absolutely LOVE Pope. I hope he stays. But if he doesn’t, Bragga really needs to make a great local hire. This ain’t Cookeville, TN. Houston is a baseball hotbed.

I will give coach Bragga some credit and have faith he will make good decisions. I would have been very happy if he remained coach Pope, but have faith that coach Bragga can build the staff he needs to succeed.

The TN Tech pitching coach is staying at TN Tech to be part of their new staff...
So looks like Bragga will be going with someone both new to him and new to Rice.

Thank heaven. That would have been a disaster. Not only were the pitching stats horrible the last several years-- yes, worse than ours and against a much weaker schedule, but the guy has no ties to Texas and Houston. We need a proven pitching coach and in-state recruiter. Anyone else would raise serious red flags.
Do we know for certain that Pope is out?

Any names? For such a “high profile” job I haven’t seen anything on D1.

Pope is out.
Sucks.
I think that’s a big mistake.

That's the nature of the coaching industry folks. Pope knew what he was getting into when he went to work for an 80-year head coach. He'll be fine - he'll get a new gig very quickly I'm sure.
I don't think it's unusual at all for Bragga to want to get some new folks in there, and it would have been very unusual had he hired someone who also interviewed for the head job as one of his top assistants. That type of dynamic just isn't seen very often in athletics, and when you do see it, it's usually a recipe for disaster.

Understand, FBO, BUT...we need a proven pitching coach (not a novice) since that's not Bragga's area of expertise (and his teams were not exactly noted for their pitching prowess), as well as a proven recruiter with strong ties to Texas and Houston high schools. Both those roles have to be filled by the remaining open Assistant Coach position. Janish has no experience recruiting and no current ties to Houston high schools....and Bragga has absolutely no ties to Houston or Texas high schools.

I'm sure there are plenty of people in the Houston area who would fit your needs and might be interested. How about the College Park head coach (Jason Washburn) - he's also the head coach of Team USA's under 15 national team. I'm guessing he's got a decent pipeline in place to the Houston/Texas high school baseball scene.
Relax - there are plenty of good options out there and Bragga will hire someone good.

sounds like a good choice. Shaka Smart at Texas certainly utilizes his relationship w the national team in recruiting

Some of you.
You are not the head coach, why do you care about Pope out or not.
Pope is out, Oh, this is a mistake!
Come on, let's make it simple, Could you make same record in Tennessee? If not, why not be quiet and wait to next season.
Some of you need show respect to the HEAD coach. However, your opinion doesn't matter.

Ok, maybe you have misunderstood the reasoning for (at least my) disappointment with Pope being out. 1) I’ve developed a very high opinion of John over the last 2 years regarding his recruiting effort. 2) This has nothing to do with my faith in Bragga. I think he’s an awesome hire and will bring in a fantastic staff. 3) I simply wanted Pope retained because it would be awesome to have a great local connection to high schools.
I believe Bragga is the right guy and will do a great job. Just would have loved to see Pope retained.

FYI, this is a sports board for fans, i.e. a place that is specifically for NOT being quiet

Hiring Cory Barton from LaTech.
Edit: Kendall Rogers reported it and likes the hire. I’ll trust that.
