Bless your heart.

...at least you managed to avoid Zimbabwe references, but still a weak post.

Cute deflection but Care to make a counter point? Senior leadership rarely survives in a successful management changeover. especially a performance based changeover. Do we really want to keep doing what we did last year?

I get that Rice likes to keep blazing the unconventional wisdom trail, but it's not working. Maybe the others have it right?

You do understand that it's Bragga's decision to keep Janish, not Rice policy, right?

Are you arguing that keeping Janish is a disastrous mistake?

So hiring a new coach, who subsequently hires a new pitching coach, and decides to retain a Rice alum who’s been on staff for a few months after a long professional career is “doing what we did last year?”

Yes. What else could I be arguing.

1. I do not support senior members of a previous staff. Especially a staff being pushed out on performance reasons.

2. I was not impressed by any aspect of last year.

Senior leadership in management? A coach like this is a first line manager.

Sure. But it is also an extremely flat depth chart.

Janish reported to Graham. Graham was pushed out for non performing. Janish was one of his choices. Typically Janish would go.

That's it. I do not understand why this is controversial. This is how leadership succession works elsewhere. Successfully

Because it's baseball, not the Board Room.

Coach Bragga wanted Janish on his staff. Case closed.

By that metric Rice wanted Greenspan. case closed. All dissent must end.

All I'm stating is, in my experience, this is a bad move. Coupled with not being impressed with Janish so far, doubly so.

Forgive me for toeing the party line again. I think my track record on stuff here is decent enough to not immediately disregard dissent.

Great. Laugh. Same reaction I got when I said Bailiff was a terrible coach and Braun was an even worse one.leave alone the rest.

My track record speaks far better than your scorn.

So how many games did you attend this past season to draw your conclusions about Janish?

And Greenspan had an extensive unimpressive trach record as an AD. Paul just finished his 1st year of coaching. Your comparison of the two is a bad stretch.

I said that Greenspan was going to be a disaster. Bailiff was a failure. Braun was a moron hire. Pera was a unqualified panic hire. Let's see ... greg William's should have been fired like 5 years before he did.

Should I go on? Should I layer on corporate examples too?

Just asking. Didn't see you at any I attended.

Exactly what are you claiming as your "record on Rice Athletics". I know you used to be a vocal, regularly attending fan. Seems like the last couple of years you just trash anything related to the program with unrelated airline or African nation analogies. If the program is run so poorly and is such a waste of time and money, why do you still waste your time and energy to come here every few months, after vowing to leave the Parliament, to trash it.

I ask myself the same question routinely. Several friends ask me the same.

I guess losing a quarter billion over the last decade while willingly choosing failure has finally rubbed me the wrong way.

I believe in the best future of Rice. Rice University overall

Edit: I also was at the Stanford series and met people there . After that I moved more into the silent observer type.

Also the question not asked is what sent someone who was a regular fan who cared a lot into one who is now questioning the operations of the department. Why would an alum and fan lose faith? Maybe it isnt the fan who is the one who is crazy or a malcontent? Maybe the fact that this fan is one of double digit young alum fans may say that it isnt a singular problem and that the majority of alums threw in the towel q long time ago?

Still can’t understand how you think a total overhaul of the program can be viewed as “doing what we did last year.” Janish has been here for like 8 months....you act as though he was the OG’s sidekick for the last 3 decades. Being a scorned Rice supporter is understandable given the failures we’ve seen over the last several years but your view of what they’re trying to do with the baseball program is simply strange.

Has Bragga given any insight as to why he's keeping Janish? On it's face I'm not thrilled with the move, but if there's a specific/concrete reason for it, I'm open to listening.

Bragga said he had scheduled a one-hour interview that ended up lasting over 4 hours. They obviously hit it off, and Bragga clearly saw something he liked (aside from having a former Rice player, major leaguer and someone who provides at least an iota of continuity on his staff). Keep in mind, Bragga will be the primary offensive/hitting coach (just as The OG was always the primary pitching coach) and Barton will be the pitching coach and head recruiter. Paul's role will be to work with the infielders and baserunners. I'm also guessing Bragga replaces him as 3B coach (as he assumed that role at TTU).

Will be interesting to see who ends up being volunteer coach as well, as far as their baseball background goes.

I spoke to Paul a few times during the season and have know him since he was at Rice. I have always considered him to be a great representative of the best in Rice baseball.

I can't imagine anyone being more qualified for the job and I can't imagine anyone having a better interview than Paul. Assuming you don't solely hire based on the number of years a candidate has been a college assistant coach, Paul is unquestionably the best candidate (although I don't think he is a pilot).
