RE: 2019 C-USA Football recruits
Relatively speaking, the were two players for us - Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich - were hardly recruited at all. I don't think there was an FBS offer between them. They turned out okay.

Maybe he liked the coaching staff? maybe he liked the way they play? There are many reasons a recruit might pick a G5 school over a P5 school.

Are there? Maybe a P5 like Kansas but not Stanford. The only reason would be family being close at FAU. Or else he’s passing up top notch academics and top notch athletics some short sighted poor reason. If you actually get a full ride to play there (which he supposedly did) going to FAU is an awful decision.

Did it occur to you, that anyone going to a top P5 program would have to toil on the bench for 2-3 seasons, while, at FAU, he could start right away or after the redshirt? That's not a reason good enough for you?

And most of the NCAA football players do not care as much about academics as they do about NCAA football.

Good players aren’t afraid to compete for positions. The percentage of NCAA football players who make it in the pros is so small you’re incredibly dumb to turn down a better education for an extra 2 years of starting football that hardly anyone watches. So yes it did occur to me I just think it’s a very poor decision.

Now we all know your statement on academics is sadly true... Rice has had more of a problem in basketball lately than in football. Guys who are never going to play in the NBA transferring for a much worse degree will never make sense to me. Some of these guys would have trouble making a 3rd level league in Europe but they’d rather go somewhere where they’re glorified as “athletes” like they were in HS for the remaining time they have in college. At a high ranking academic P5 like Michigan, Stanford, UT you get both.

If you are Alfred Morris (who was barely recruited by the FBS programs) you can bet otherwise.

What do you think made Singletary refuse Illinois whose offer he originally accepted and come to FAU instead (before Kiffin)?

At this point, I do not have any reason to believe that any of them will be rated any higher than two stars once 247Sports gets around to rating them. However, when you look at their hudl videos, there does appear to be some quite capable, talented folks in that group.

My question to you folks is -- do any of you have any similar situation with 247Sports, or is this ( the delayed ratings) for some reason unknown to me that is unique to ODU among C-USA teams?
That's weird to me. All of ours are on there and I dont remember ever having past players not on there. At least since 247 became the go-to for recruiting. Maybe it's a regional thing where they have more staff here in Texas and need to add more staff up in Virginia.

Th as probably a good bet. TX probably gets way more attention. Football isn't even close to as popular here.

Ratliff before his passing is who I and a lot of others wanted to replace Doc when he leaves/retires. Phil was just meant to be a coach. Doc knew that Phil wanted the HC job at Marshall one day and its the reason he ended up at Charlotte, Doc told him he had to go get experience from other places.

Pennington only had the Marshall offer. Leftwich had like 5-6 DII offers and an offer from Richmond and Howard to play LB not QB.

Has any of your commitments ever done this? What would you do if you were the head coach?

https://twitter.com/that_footba11/status...97473?s=21

In case you can’t open the link. He basically says he has committed to UTEP but then writes this in all caps.

“MY RECRUITMENT IS STILL OPEN TO EVERYONE AND ANYONE!!”

Wow that is weird. We have had commits say "They are verbally committed" but not the open to everyone which feels really weird.

If I were Dimel, I'd pull his offer. That may be what has been done, because I don't see him showing up on your 247 page.

Also, congrats to ODU! You guys have been throwing down recently and now have 17 commits and the #2 class in C-USA. Although, I have a feeling your position could be short lived.

Yeah our strength is purely from numbers not from quality or what ever the ratings of the recruits allude to. Congrats to you guys on a solid class as well.

Is Rose REALLY a 3 Star though? I mean 247 says he is but I'm just not convinced.

He would be a 5 star for North Texas.

Oh jeez. Yeah, if he has to write that in all caps I don't think that he cares about UTEP all that much. And this is a really bad look for him. Would not surprise me if UTEP cuts him and we see him on season 4 of Last Chance U.

The Texas schools get a lot of 3 star love and overall looks like it gets more attention in general by the recruiting services than the talent pools we generally fish. Makes sense tho. Football is on another level in tx and those areas compared to Virginia, New Jersey and the likes.
