RE: MLB Draft - Rice
I don't know much about the MLB draft trends, but just glancing at the 25th and 26th rounds, almost every pick is a college player. I'm guessing that this is typical for later rounds? There's just a miniscule chance that any player chosen here will ever make it to the big leagues.

Yup, Mike Vasil, a UVA commit, was predicted to go in the first round but told teams not to draft him, for example.

Unfortunately I don’t think any of our commits are quite on his level.

2017 - Glenn Otto - 7th round (pick #206); Dane Myers - 9th round (pick #281)
2013 - Austin Kubitza - 4th round (pick #126)
2012 - J.T. Chargois - 2nd round (pick #72); Tyler Duffey - 5th round (pick #160)
2011 - Anthony Rendon - 1st round (pick #6); Anthony Cingrani - 3rd round (pick #114)

Rendon is the only hitter in that group anyway.
I think you missed a few...

2012- Craig Manuel 10th round
2013- Michael Ratterree 10th round
2014-Zech Lemond 3rd round, Skyler Ewing 6th round
2015- Jordan Stephens 5th round, Leon Byrd 10th round
2016- Jon Duplantier 3rd round, Blake Fox 10th round

FWIW when you search our recruits names in the MLB draft tracker they don’t even show up. Not a single one appears to be on the draft radar. Remember only 8 years ago our commit was the #2 overall pick.

Only 5 of 18 aren’t listed for Texas A&M. With several drafted already.

Is his dad now a scout for Seattle? He used to be a scout for the White Sox and that's why he got drafted the first time (by Chicago) three years ago. He hit .222 for Rice this year in 27 at-bats and is a lifetime .156 hitter at Rice. That's kind of an insult to Ryan Chandler (or Sarchet) if he doesn't get drafted.

I'll also be surprised if someone doesn't take a flyer on DiCaprio.

Our draft situation will be much more active next year. We have quite a few sophomore pitchers who will go in the upper half of the draft next year.

I hope they were all drafted high and got above-slot bonuses to sign.

Coach Graham was telling several scouts last week in Austin that the best hitter on the team next year will be Cade Edwards.

And the Astros took Bregman's brother in the 35th Round, along with Antonio Cruz (Cruz Jr's youngest who's a senior at Episcopal)

Look at the link I put in there in reply to someone else. That's where the list came from. They didn't have a bunch of years listed for whatever reason. The point is still valid though - Proctor is Rice's highest drafted hitter since Rendon.

Bit of a surprise, but the Rangers selected David Lebron in the 26th round (pick #779 overall). Evidently he's a RHP.

(Hat tip to @RiceBaseball twitter for pointing this out.)

RE: MLB Draft - Rice
Interesting story on NCAA.com last week, about what programs have had the most 1st round picks in the MLB draft since 1965 (when the first amateur draft was held). Rice comes in tied for 8th overall. That's quite a run Rice has had, considering how compacted over time those players fall. (Not knowing my deep Rice baseball history, when was the first player from Rice first selected in the first round? Was it before or after the OG started?)

Maybe Norm Charlton in 1984? Also saw that Norm has 3 degrees from Rice.

14 of the 18 CUSA 1st round picks have been from Rice. Justin Verlander out of ODU is one of the 4. Who are the others?

First Rice player drafted in 1st round was Ron Henson '67, followed by Mike Macha '79 (think they were both 3rd basemen) then pitchers Matt Williams '81, and Norm Charlton '84.
