True. But my understanding is he is running day-to-day opperations and is involved with recruiting. So the big questions would be how involved in recruiting and in game tatics/adjustments. It does have some risk and some upside as a move for the program.

what does he have on his resume over anyone else? nothing...its pure nepotism....

but there is an advantage, he has been around his father his whole life... he has been taught the x and os from his childhood....

sampson will only coach 6-7 more years max...likely shorter..i think the premise and original plan was to have kellen bethe #1 assistant till then, if we like what sampson produced there will not be anyone better to continue what he started than kellen

I think Kelvin wants that in writing now. He wants to make sure Kellen is taken care of after he retires.

Im not for this. I think its fine that Kellen gets to throw his hat in the ring---but we hire the best coach we can afford when Sampson leaves. Thats the only way to run a program. Coaching is not hereditary. If Sampson continues to be successful here and his son is seen as a key part of that---someone will everntually offer his son the head job somewhere (probably not a million dollar a year kind of job--but if he does well there---that million+ a year job will come).

There is a Larry Brown comparison here. It’s not a “son on the staff” thing but it’s this: LB went back to the well too soon and asked for too much. He put the program on he map but there were issues as well. He might still be the coach at SMU had h simply taken lss money and given up a little control. He wanted too much, too soon.

Kelvin may want to lock in his son but most likely that is also asking for too much, too soon. If that is the case it’s a tough spot for both sides. If he wants his son to be “head coach in waiting” he needs to put in a few more good years establishing the program. If he really wants the NBA gig he tries to force the HC in waiting issue and, if that doesn’t work..... junior goes NBA too.

Tough spot.

*---An evergreen question for the Magic since 2010

The Magic are one of the worst managed teams in the league going back to Shaq. They got lucky in the draft but had no idea how to keep the team playing together. You need at least 2 all stars these days to have a chance at winning a championship. Building from the ground up without any all stars is almost impossible because no one wants to stay on a team that is a perennial loser after their rookie contract is up. They don't want to risk getting hurt in a losing cause. This is a business for them as well as the franchise.

Good for the conference and Houston. We need the better basketball programs to at least stay where they are.

Sampson’s rebuilding of the Houston program may continue which is good news for fans of both Houston and AAC members.

Nice! Houston will now finish in 4th-6th place instead of 9th-11th.

Nice work. Although I was surprised that you could get anything in Houston for $60. Tulsa's gazebo was way more than that, like double. At first I thought maybe the new concession stand? But $60 is like 4 large drinks and a couple hotdogs these days.

Then it hit me, an out house because they're the poop!

Coog'd it

This league's starting to gain some stability and I'm into it.
