Agreed, It's fun having teams that when they beat you its because they are legitimately good not because they had some hot shooting day that is way out of the norm (cough cough UNI)

The only thing the Magic can offer Sampson is more money. That's it. They certainly can't offer him a better opportunity to win, that's for sure.

It's more than twice the games though. At his age I don't see the motivation to want to travel and play as much as they do for a team that bad other than the money. I think the bigger motivation would be leveraging the Houston job for his son and leaving him in a good situation. At that point maybe it makes more sense. I think the Magic are 3 or 4 years away from even sniffing the playoffs and that assumes they nail their pick this year and Gordan gets a lot better. They really have little to nothing on that team that is attractive.

me: if kelvin is hired by the magic, kellen who runs the day to day for the team will likely take over, so the drop off shouldnt be that big as everything will likely be kept exactly the same as it was with kelvin, it would also prevent us from losing recruits and transfers
AndShock's rendition of what i said: one of the assistants is a future HOF coach à la Penny Hardaway so Houston will be fine.
This is clearly a joke to everyone but you... you’re a homer who’s going to do homer things, nothing wrong with it. But recognize when someone is actually debating you and when they’re using hyperbole to make a quick poke at you. The fact that you had to cite your words makes you more fun to troll in this case.
In all seriousness, he gone. And if he’s not this is evidence he won’t be here for the next 10 years like coog fans have been saying. I don’t consider this to be bad for us, as during his time the program has made huge steps towards relevance. IMO he has done exactly what he was hired to do. I too for selfish reasons wish he would stay, the man can coach. But I also understand the aspects to why he would leave and likely lead to his son as our HC unless the admin thinks there’s a better option for us.
All we can do as fans as be happy at the progress and keep doing the steps to make UH a DESTINATION for once. Empty stadiums and fan apathy have been a plague for us and I think the next few years we have a chance to change that perception with the new stadium and buzz around Cullen. We have to play off the rockets success and fan base instead of trying to compete with that , Tillman gets that and the Toyota center has marketed the coogs several times this year and its going to benefit Houston as a whole.
Lighten up buddy.
As stated in another thread....the dude just can't take YES for an answer.

If you think about it, Sampson has a lot of leverage right now.
1. Coming off first NCAA tournament win and Top 25 finish in 30+ years;
2. School promoting new arena to donors based in part on the promise of similar success in the future.
If I was Sampson's agent, I would be using whatever means necessary to cash in on that opportunity.

While I agree with your points I think coach Sampson is more of a college basketball head coach than say an NBA type.
Sampson has a real good thing going here hate for him go somewhere in this case the NBA and not do well there.
IDK perhaps a nice pay bump could calm the waters down.

I agree although it may be a few days before they are truely in the clear.
What's the feeling Houston fans have right now coin flip? Better? Worse?

My point was that he has leverage over UH. Cashing in at UH by playing footsies with the NBA.

The feeling is that he stays. There’s a common belief that Kelvin is using his leverage to get Kellen the official head coach in waiting title. He wants to make sure his son is taken care of once he retires.

I was born in 82 and although this was the best basketball season I can remember for UH it is only one season of success. No way would I be ready guarantee Kelvin the HC job.

Don’t be shocked if we write something into his and Kellen’s contract that if Kelvin stays at least three more seasons, then Kellen will take over after. Pretty confident this is how Kelvin is using his leverage he has on UH.

I realize that this has precedent in college hoops, but what qualifications does the younger Sampson have other than who his dad is? To me this whole passing on a head coach job like a crown is strange and bizarre.
