It's more than twice the games though. At his age I don't see the motivation to want to travel and play as much as they do for a team that bad other than the money. I think the bigger motivation would be leveraging the Houston job for his son and leaving him in a good situation. At that point maybe it makes more sense. I think the Magic are 3 or 4 years away from even sniffing the playoffs and that assumes they nail their pick this year and Gordan gets a lot better. They really have little to nothing on that team that is attractive.

I don’t consider this to be bad for us, as during his time the program has made huge steps towards relevance. IMO he has done exactly what he was hired to do. I too for selfish reasons wish he would stay, the man can coach. But I also understand the aspects to why he would leave and likely lead to his son as our HC unless the admin thinks there’s a better option for us.

All we can do as fans as be happy at the progress and keep doing the steps to make UH a DESTINATION for once. Empty stadiums and fan apathy have been a plague for us and I think the next few years we have a chance to change that perception with the new stadium and buzz around Cullen. We have to play off the rockets success and fan base instead of trying to compete with that , Tillman gets that and the Toyota center has marketed the coogs several times this year and its going to benefit Houston as a whole.

If you think about it, Sampson has a lot of leverage right now.

1. Coming off first NCAA tournament win and Top 25 finish in 30+ years;
2. School promoting new arena to donors based in part on the promise of similar success in the future.

If I was Sampson's agent, I would be using whatever means necessary to cash in on that opportunity.

While I agree with your points I think coach Sampson is more of a college basketball head coach than say an NBA type.

Sampson has a real good thing going here hate for him go somewhere in this case the NBA and not do well there.

IDK perhaps a nice pay bump could calm the waters down.

Don’t be shocked if we write something into his and Kellen’s contract that if Kelvin stays at least three more seasons, then Kellen will take over after. Pretty confident this is how Kelvin is using his leverage he has on UH.

I realize that this has precedent in college hoops, but what qualifications does the younger Sampson have other than who his dad is? To me this whole passing on a head coach job like a crown is strange and bizarre.
