I wouldn't hate him if he took it, but I hope he stays for selfish reasons obviously.
According to pesik one of the assistants is a future HOF coach à la Penny Hardaway so Houston will be fine.

when did i say that????

i simply noted who is likely to take over...

if you actually read my comment i said i was worried if we could keep the replacement beyond a few years...
this board is beyond wierd to me....i dont say anything outlandish if you actually read my posts, but you guys twist everything i say into it being outlandish

me: if kelvin is hired by the magic, kellen who runs the day to day for the team will likely take over, so the drop off shouldnt be that big as everything will likely be kept exactly the same as it was with kelvin, it would also prevent us from losing recruits and transfers

AndShock's rendition of what i said: one of the assistants is a future HOF coach à la Penny Hardaway so Houston will be fine.

This is clearly a joke to everyone but you... you’re a homer who’s going to do homer things, nothing wrong with it. But recognize when someone is actually debating you and when they’re using hyperbole to make a quick poke at you. The fact that you had to cite your words makes you more fun to troll in this case.

In all seriousness, he gone. And if he’s not this is evidence he won’t be here for the next 10 years like coog fans have been saying. I don’t consider this to be bad for us, as during his time the program has made huge steps towards relevance. IMO he has done exactly what he was hired to do. I too for selfish reasons wish he would stay, the man can coach. But I also understand the aspects to why he would leave and likely lead to his son as our HC unless the admin thinks there’s a better option for us.

All we can do as fans as be happy at the progress and keep doing the steps to make UH a DESTINATION for once. Empty stadiums and fan apathy have been a plague for us and I think the next few years we have a chance to change that perception with the new stadium and buzz around Cullen. We have to play off the rockets success and fan base instead of trying to compete with that , Tillman gets that and the Toyota center has marketed the coogs several times this year and its going to benefit Houston as a whole.

Lighten up buddy.

he was being serious to an extent...this is kind of a continuation of a different conversations in the other thread..i was actually attacked for saying i think we might be fine next season if we lost kelvin..which i was then attacked for, as they interpreted that as me saying kellen was as good as kelvin, or kelvin is replaceable

(when my point was that Kelvin system and culture has been established, we return a lot of player who are familiar with his system, and that we can keep what kelvin built going if we retain the staff, everyone isnt going to forget their duties)

i get that its a joke, but the joke is based around the premise that i think Houston has a star assistant (which they seriously think)..and they are making a hyperbole around that ..my response, was i never even gave that premise.
----------------------------------------

also kelvin isnt gone, the rumor is that insiders are guessing he will be the guy chosen, but barely info has come out, there actually isnt any information saying he "is" the top candidate or even interviewed...if you followed the magic job search kelvin is like the 8th guy linked to the job.. there hasnt even been a confirmed interview yet

this also isnt evidence he wont be here...he personally knows the GM at Orlando, if he isnt hired this year or next, he'll be at houston for a while, as he will be too old for any other job.. he isnt a hot commodity, he is a known commodity to this one organization.

and your last paragraph is actually something interesting i noted in the other thread... kelvin isnt going anywhere if we get past this hurdle, his violations limits his career opportunities.... kellen is squeaky clean, he wins at houston and everyone will try and steal himin a year or 2...we arent a destination job yet....

i think its keep kelvin for the next 6-8 years, while building houston up, to eventually hand to kellen where he could run houston for another decade

or kelvin leave in the next 3 weeks, we get kellen for 2 years max...as winner he is gone, as a failure he is fired.....
If he leaves you have a stacked team returning and a new arena opening
She gone.

You are missing the point. Responding to any critique of Houston with a wall of text makes you incredibly fun to troll.

Just accept that he is gone, and Houston will likely take a significant step back.
Honestly for Sampson it makes sense as a way not only to grab a pocket full of cash but to try to get your son a head coaching job at the same time. Much in the way Bob Knight quit in the middle of the year and his son got the TT job, if Sampson left at this point you almost have to give the son the job at least on an interim basis to keep the team together at this late date. Assuming he does presumably well like most expect with the team in place then he probably keeps the job and it's a win win for Kelvin Sampson.

Plenty of precedent of father son turnover. Tony Bennett got his job like that and so did Keno Davis. It's almost like these guys walked away at the time they know they have a great team returning as well to give their son the best opportunity since both improved a lot the following year. I'd imagine the plan was for him to take over all alone anyway at some point.
Sampson is a fine coach but, man, what are the Magic doing*?

Honestly he makes as much sense as anyone else. They suck and probably will suck for at least 4 more years so why pay for someone big bucks to hold the job when you could get Sampson for probably relatively cheap. All his job will be is to develop players and build a little culture and then you fire him if the team is ready to take the next step and he doesn't seem capable of it.

D. Case won 60 games and the coach of the year and was fired. The NBA doesn't mind firing anyone at anytime. They just need a placeholder at this point and someone that can hopefully develop the hypothetical good young guys they will bring in since they don't have much. You just had Frank Vogel who is about as accomplished as any coach in the NBA and he couldn't get jack crap out of this squad.
Kelv must've saw the number for the NCAA pop up on his phone.
This would be a massive hit to the league to say the least. I expect Houston to be a consistent top 25 team if he sticks around.
Update: The players don't know anything, Corey Davis just wrote a tweet thanking Samspon no matter what happens in respon're to a different tweet talking about the rumor

Idk if that is a good or bad thing.

Finally, a level headed post ^^^

This league needs as many top 25 programs as possible... If this league does not show more improvement, eyeball interest could very well drop and that hurts going into its new tv negotiations.
