With Iowa, Utah, FSU, BYU, Toledo, WMU, CMU, Ohio, and Akron already on the schedule, it's kind of nice to see the BSU laugher mixed in there!

Never underestimate an oppenent. I'm sure FSU thinks of us as a "laugher" too, like Ohio State and Nebraska did.
Will FSU win? Probably, but hopefully we'll make it a game and make them a little uncomfortable for awhile, like the Orange Bowl.

Hey, maybe we have a chance against them this year.
Three MAC teams in the bottom tier already.....

We have no chance against CMU no matter what place they are in and how many players they have lost. It's just the way it is, and we can't do a thing about it. It's an immutable Universal law.

Don't like the idea of a middle of September MAC West game. I could see a crossover game, but it's way too early for a Divisional opponent.

So with Akron checking in at #97.....
....5 of the "bottom" 32 teams are MAC.
But that special group also includes: Colorado, Kansas, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and of course the "Illness".

RE: Orlando Sentinel countdown
Whoever does this countdown is not that familiar with the MAC...
C. Mich ..#117 , Akron #97 while E. Michigan and Miami OH in colleges best 90 teams?
C. Mich have been bowl eligible 4 years in a row & counting, and Akron best team in East last year.
Head scratching .

Maryland at 65, meaning NIU is in the top half. Not sure I agree, but it does show some respect. I can remember the days when we where in the ESPN bottom 10 consistently.

We all know these rankings are meaningless to a point in regards to how the team performs on the field. But there is value in the ranking as far as the national image or respect of NIU football. That's where preseason rankings hold value.

I’ve never understood why people get so happy about meaningless rankings like this.
Joe College Football doesn’t care about the Orlando Sentinel’s rankings and even if he did he’s not looking at them like “Wow... Northern Illinois, that’s a program that deserves respect!”
AP/Coaches Poll are the only ones that matter.

There was a time when AP and COaches polls mattered, they do not anymore. Couple of reasons for that A) G5's are not given fair considerations since P5s are consolidating and bumping out the smaller schools and B) Coaches poll is not used in any type of post season BCS formula anymore. The only poll that matters is the Beauty Pageant Poll by the 12 corrupt people who get together in the smoky hotel room to decide which of the same 10 designated teams to choose from every year.
I remember when there was a sentiment about how bad the BCS was. It is clear now, it was 100 times better than what we have now. At least with the BCS, some of the corruption was removed and there was some transparency in place.
