Trade the pick
Obviously the return depends on how the ping pong balls fall, but if the organization’s goal is to be competitive next year, then I would trade the pick.
This roster is not a playoff roster. Even with a healthy Mike. Even if Chandler Parsons can give you something. Even if Tyreke Evans does decide to re-sign. And let’s be honest, the latter two hypotheticals aren’t givens.

Depends how high the pick is. Obviously the #1 pick would go for more. I’ll let our front office decide that (God help us) but if you’re trying to go from one of the worst teams to a playoff team in one season, you better draft a guy like Donovan Mitchell. Because this roster needs a ton of help. I think that’s extremely rare to find. Even with “can’t miss” prospects, it takes time.

Grizzlies were a playoff team this season if Conley doesn't get hurt. A healthy Conley and the Grizz were better than Lakers, Clips, Nuggets, and T-Wolves. They would've finished 7th or 8th the same they have the last few seasons.
A healthy Conley, paired with a more focused Gasol, and then add that to the draft pick. Yea it's a playoff team. Brooks will only get better. Jamychal is a solid role player. If Tyreke re-signs that's easily one of the best 6th man's in the league. Harrison got better this year. Martin showed signs.
Is it a championship caliber team? No, but it's a roster that is more than capable of making the playoffs if key guys stay healthy.

The team is not as far away as it looks. I don't know what's going on with Evans. Dillon Brooks is a solid player. Marshon Brooks is a solid player. Conley had a whole year to rest his ankle. You have to assume a top 5 pick is at least rotation decent with a chance to become a star.
You can't get equal value for it unless you trade it for a really good young player on a cheap contract. Sure, I'll trade it for Jaylen Brown of Jayson Tatum or Donovan Mitchell. Otherwise, no thanks.

I'm still a little iffy on Marshon.

But you are taking into account a healthy Conley while not recognizing injuries for the Nuggets (Millsap missed about 40 games) and the Clips (several key injuries). Minnesota was 9-13 w/o Jimmy Butler and 38-22 (.633 or 52 win team) with him.

If Conley was healthy this year Grizz would've finished in their typical 7/8 position in the West.

RE: Trade the pick
I disagree, it would make more sense to trade the pick if we thought we were 1 veteran piece away from contending again. That's definitely not the case.
Plus we don't have the cap space to bring an expensive veteran in so this is sort of a non-starter. No one is taking Parsons' terrible contract, that would be about the only way to do this. And it makes no sense to trade back for multiple 1st round picks, we don't need multiple rotation guys we need to pick a long term starter in the top 5.
I think we could definitely sneak into the playoffs next year with a healthy Conley, a re-signed Tyreke, and impact picks in the top 5 and at 32. But we ain't winning a series until 2020-21 when Parsons' contract expires and we can get another legit starter with that 25 million.
All that said, this front office will find a way to mess it up. Like panic and extend Parsons or something, they'll find a way.

Chandler's contract ends after '19-'20 season, not in '21.
Draft pick trades are rarely for current players. Usually a pick for picks.
If the Grizz get the #2 pick, then trade down 6 or 7 spaces and still get a guy like Mikal Bridges, that would make some sense. And in that trade get a #1 pick back next year to replace the pick we owe Boston. The '19 #1 pick would be protected, but would still make sense for the Grizz.

RE: Trade the pick
Conley has played 55% of the regular season games over the last 3 years and will be 31 when the season starts. Marc had a good year, but will turn 34 during the season. I expect them to be productive, but I’m not sure I expect either to have career years moving forward. Given this roster...I think they both need to be great if we want to have a shot at the playoffs.
After that what do we have? How many current Grizzlies would start on a current Western Conference Playoff team? Evans? Probably ...but who knows what happens with him this offseason.
So we have 3 players on the entire roster that would start on a playoff team?
Look at the rest of the roster...
Harrison - 2nd Round
Selden - Undrafted
M. Brooks - Out of the league for 4 years
D. Brooks - 2nd Round
Chandler - chronically injured/unavailabile
Ja’Mychal - Undrafted
Martin - almost didn’t make the roster
DD - Doesn’t seem to enjoy basketball
McLemore - Couldn’t get PT over the first 4 guys I mentioned
Rabb - 2nd Round/G Leaguer
Kobi - 2-way
Adding a rookie to that isn’t going to elevate your team from one of the worst to one of the best, unless you hit on someone truly special.

How do you base that?
The Grizz, generally, were expected to win about 38-40 games this season. They had won 43 and 42 the two years prior. Even the more optimistic Grizz fans hoped for 42-45 wins at best.
http://www.vegasinsider.com/nba/story.cfm/story/1865923
Minnesota (even with Butler missing 20+ games) won 47. The Nuggets (even with Millsaps missing 40+ games) won 46. The Clippers won 42 and had several major injuries.

Just keep the pick and maybe we can trade that player to Boston in a couple of years for Marcus Smart and a 2nd round pick.

Ok. I think the idea is to develop a couple of the young guys, so that when Parsons/Gasol money comes free in '20-'21, the Grizz can use it to re-sign those guys. Time will tell.

Agree Grizz being a playoff team next year requires several things to go right, Hometown, but don't think it's a terrific stretch.
Only two very good teams in the West, GS and Houston only teams with 50+ wins. All the 40 win teams have flaws. Paul George probably leaves Ok City. Kawhi seems to want out of San Antonio. Portland was the #3 seed, and they get swept in the 1st round.
Plus, those 40 win teams' win totals are slightly inflated because the NBA had around 9 teams tanking for large parts of the season. Post All-Star break, there were very few wins by tank teams over playoff teams (Memphis had a couple.)
Also think you underrate some Grizz players. Dillon was #10 on the CBS final rookie power poll in a very strong rookie class. JMyke was still 10 & 8 and still a plus defender in a injury year, probably around the 15th best PF, depending on who you put in the PF category.
