And you're missing a key detail. This is the story:
2017 safest year for air travel as fatalities fall
I'm sorry, but no, the trump administrations tweaks to screening are not responsible in any way shape or form to the good fortune in air travel in 2017 for the entire world!
That link you posted is fake news...
2017
January 16 – Turkish Airlines Flight 6491, a Boeing 747-400F, crashes into a residential area upon attempting landing in thick fog in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The four crew members and 35 people on the ground are killed.
March 20 – South Supreme Airlines Antonov An-26 crash, an Antonov An-26, crashes on landing at Wau Airport, South Sudan. All 40 passengers and five crew members survive.
March 28 – Peruvian Airlines Flight 112, a Boeing 737-300, is burnt out following the collapse of the landing gear at Francisco Carle Airport, Jauja. All 141 people on board survive.
July 7 – Air Canada Flight 759, an Airbus A320, nearly lands on a taxiway occupied by four jets at SFO 28R. No one is killed or injured.
September 30 – Air France Flight 66, an Airbus A380, suffers an uncontained engine failure and makes an emergency landing at Goose Bay Airport, Canada. No one is killed or injured.
December 13 – West Wind Aviation Flight 280, an ATR 42-300, crashes shortly after takeoff from Fond-du-Lac Airport, Saskatchewan, Canada. Of the 25 passengers and crew on board, all initially survive, but one passenger dies of his injuries in the hospital 12 days later.
No, it's not. That's why it's dangerous for trump and his minions to label anything they don't like as such.
If you bothered to read the story you would clearly see this:
Quote:Cargo plane crash
A report by the Airline Safety Network said there were a total of ten fatal accidents, resulting in 79 deaths last year. That compared with 16 accidents and 303 lives lost in 2016.
The organisation based its figures on incidents involving civil aircraft certified to carry at least 14 people.
The most serious accident of 2017 came in January when a Turkish cargo plane crashed into a village in Kyrgyzstan killing all four crew and 35 people on the ground.
And the incident with the most on-board fatalities happened on New Years Eve, when a Nature Air single-propeller Cessna 208 Caravan plane crashed in western Costa Rica, killing 12 passengers and crew.
Neither report counted military or helicopter accidents, meaning the year's worst air disaster, the crash of a Burmese Y-8 military transporter plane, which crashed in June killing all 122 people on board did not appear in the statistics.
Incidents involving smaller planes also did not figure in the data.
trump's tweet however...is complete and total bull****...but you defend that to the hilt.
ok, so 2017 was not the safest year in aviation history? I am trying to comprehend whats bull**** about his tweet. Did he lie? Because everything I am seeing online, and in articles, 2017, in fact, was the safest in aviation history. Also, did you know, that safety isnt just rated on the number of deaths? Once you get past that tiny little detail, you will start to comprehend why this was the safest year. I mean, we all know you hate the man, but what was wrong on his tweet?
Understand and totally get that. The part is implying in any way shape or form that him being "strict" on commercial aviation had anything to do with it. No one has yet to even show that the screening changes he made were even implemented yet! By adding that part he is trying to fool his minions into thinking something he did lead to it being the safest year, it didn't. Clearly, that appears to be working. Sad.
I really wish he didn't do this sort of stuff. So 2017 was the safest year ever, what did he do to bring that about? Just like giving Obama credit for economic growth when 1) that growth was extraordinarily slow for coming out of a recession, any recession, but particularly a large one, and 2) the real reason for growth was low energy prices due to fracking.
Why do people take credit for things they had nothing to do with?
Besides, what happens if, God forbid, there is a major crash next year? Will that be Trump's fault? I'm sure that's how the media will play it. So why open yourself up to that sort of thing?
