so your post above me, #7, where you mentioned slavery, was not about the Star Spangled Banner?
Did you read the original article? It speculates that the song is in fact glorifying slavery.
My opinion was that if the song does in fact glorify it, it's going to be another instance where people are going to be clamoring to remove it.
So if I speculate you are an idiot, are you one or is it just my opinion?
Opinions are like ********........everybody has one.
yet you still treat them as gospel when it suits your argument... thank you for making my point.

I think we won't have unity until all traces of slavery are relegated to the history books and museums.
Then you're a fool... Witch hunts *NEVER* lead to unity. Slavery is illegal, and has been for 150 years. The few verses of a song we use (none of the used ones reference slavery) are the kind of traces only a marxist cultural revolution can end.
Are you ready to burn *literally* everyone and everything from the "first half" of American history? Because that's where this is going.
Quote:We cannot have proper tradition when that tradition is tainted by the remembrance of slavery.
FFS, everyone's history has some traces of them being oppressed and some traces of them oppressing others.
After slavery do we need to give back all the lands, *ALL TRACES* which were taken from Native Americans? I mean we have to get rid of all traces for unity, amiright?

Begging the question fallacy... The GOP does embrace diversity, how many pro life elected democratic senators are there? because there are a few pro choice republicans.
Or when the GOP does something like try to appoint an African American to the highest court there is a high tech lynching attempted by the dems to stop the "uncle tom" from assuming his seat.

It's a bit of a stretch to say it glorified slavery but in the third verse
Quote:No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave
The context of this, the British had hired mercenaries and recruited slaves to fight against the US Army. Key was doing nothing more than using words to describe the enemy of the US. He wasn't defending slavery.
A little background on Key
Quote:A slave owner from a large slave-owning family, Key was an early and ardent opponent of slave trafficking. He became one of the founders and strongest and most active proponents of the American Colonization Society, which sent freed blacks to Africa beginning in the early 1820s. Yet, Key’s legacy with respect to the “peculiar institution” is cloudy.

The key word - "speculates".......which means that some idiot writer out looking for anything that could remotely be tied to racism has decided they can read Francis Scott Keys mind......from 1812......

Yes indeedy.
As a supposed “history teacher” why wouldn’t you be advocating the scrubbing of history?
Remember slavery? Why on earth would anyone want to do that?!?
Someone’s gotta be kidding me... public education.

Nope, Americans have never been 100% united about anything. A black american can live where there are no traces of slavery, and be 100% on The Democrat Party Plantation. People who are obsessed with slave history get more triggered from this than a confederate statue or the national anthem.
Of course I wasn't talking about 100% unity. We are never going to have that.
Once however the Republican Party embraces the diversity of this country rather than campaign against it, our country will be much better off.
The GOP freed the slaves, built HBCUs in the south to educate them. All of the slave owners were democrats, probably including Black slave owners also.
GOP does not recruit based on identity, race, gender, politics. Where black Americans live electing Democrats, most of those hoods suck and are very dangerous. Blacks with good incomes, first thing they do is move into GOP strongholds.
I'm not talking about those Republicans who have been dead for 100 years.
I'm talking about the current Republicans who follow the tactics of Lee Atwater and trot out people like Willie Horton.
Lol.
So instead trot out people that have been dead for only 30 years...

How about this -
Black people and SJW's (as a whole) are never going to be happy or satisfied. There will ALWAYS be something else to cry about. They lose purpose once they are no longer "victims" in their minds.
As long as the Democrats tell them that they're victims and keep them in poverty, it will always be that way. Tearing down a statue or changing the National Anthem isn't going to make them happy.
