Actually, every study shows big time diminishing returns in productivity after 40 hours.

What does productivity have to do with hourly wage?

My mother was a teacher. I assume you are being sarcastic as teachers would probably only average 1600 per year.

I'm with fit on this 200.... if you paid teachers for "on the job" work.. it's well over 1600 hours per year. Hell, my mom taught private and public schools after the kids left the house (she wouldn't do it while we were there, because she knew she couldn't give us the time she needed to).

It was WELL over that number if you were to pay teachers hourly (at least the GOOD teachers). That's not counting conferences, after school activities that they were assigned (again, most of these were not voluntary), grading papers outside the standard office hours.

She actually looked forward to school's summer vacations, probably more than the students she taught did.

Did your mother not work hours at home grading papers and making lesson plans? Did you mother not stay after school or show up early to help tutor students?

She taught 2nd grade and then Chapter 1 for years. When I was in elementary school I rode with her and got there at 7:30 and we left at 3:30. The school year was roughly 180 days. I added 20 days for teacher work-days (don't think she ever had that many) to come up with her hours. I know high school teachers have more time in grading papers, but at my high school teachers only taught 3 classes a day and had a 4th class period to grade papers and what not.

Why not?

Do you want your food costs to become un-affordable? Find a farmer that works less than 60 hours a week.

But they're self employed mostly.

he said everybody. Farmers still gotta get paid. I'm sure my dad would much rather get paid hourly as a farmer, but it would be detrimental to society. A weekly paycheck certainly would be nice instead of the handfull of checks at harvest time while running a six-figure line of credit through the year. Plus are you gonna pay them whether they produce or not? What happens when entire crops are wiped out by a hurricane or drought?

Oh that's totally understandable and I can see that side of it. I just estimated quick numbers off what I observed from my mother's career.

Bless her heart. Teachers that teach the little ones are truly angels. I don't know how they have the energy to do it.

My mother taught in the public schools for 31 years. Id estimate she put in around 8 to 10 hours a week on grading papers and preparing lesson plans..not including parent teacher conferences and other stuff. I can only speak for her. I cant speak for others.

Bless her heart. I think some people don't realize how much work teachers actually put in.

It should also be noted that teachers do not get paid vacation. Sure they get a couple of months off in the summer but we don't get paid for that.

Again, should Pension and Health Care be reflected on a paycheck?
Of course if they are......they have to be guaranteed right? At the time of employment?
I think so.

It kind of depends on the school system Fit.. some will give you a smaller regular paycheck, to keep paying you during the summer months.

Some will give you the standard paycheck rate, but nothing for those three months of the year.

Pension should be guaranteed at the time of employment or it’s a lie and a scam and subject to litigation. It is a factor in employment choice.

Terms and conditions!

And some will pay you regular during the year, and give you a lump sum at the beginning of summer to pay for the summer.

So are y’all saying Private School Teachers get the shaft? What about Private business?

I have the option to get my pay checks spread out for 12 months but my contract clearly states that I am only being paid for the 180 some odd days that I work.

Not sure what you are getting at? We where just giving examples of how a school district can structure payroll for the 180 odd working days in a teachers contract.
