California, we told you so!
California's $15 Minimum Wage Could Backfire and Cost the State 400,000 Jobs, According to EPI Study

Quote:A newly released longitudinal study on the effects of the rising minimum wage in California reveals it negatively affects low-income workers.

“[A]pproximately 400,000 jobs would be lost” by 2022 “as a consequence” of California gradually imposing the first statewide $15 minimum wage, according to a study from the Employment Policies Institute, a conservative nonprofit research organization. “This estimate is conservative, as it measures the impact of California’s state minimum wage but does not account for job loss in counties that had insufficient data.”

The law will disproportionately harm the very people that lawmakers claim they want to help the most: low-skilled workers. “[N]early half of the observed job loss occurs in food service and retail industries,” the study concludes.

If $15 an hour will help the poor and cause no ill effects, why not $100 and we’ll all be rich?

No need for them to look up anything... it's the rich white guy's fault for letting people go and/or closing their business.

I could have swore some numbnut from California said that those guys leaving were a good thing, because California was "exporting" the middle class to the rest of america.

So liberals claim to care about the underprivileged by increasing their hourly pay.

Conservatives respond by explaining how that will actually end up hurting the underprivileged.

Liberals counter with accusations that conservatives don't care about the poor and only want to profit the rich.

Where could it have possibly gone wrong?

California deserves every bad thing that happens to them.

Some of the strictest green laws and home to all the green energy, no pollution warriors but yet they have some of the most severe weather the US see's. Droughts, torrential rains, floods, wildfire etc. Their politicians protect illegal aliens who have committed crimes rather than their own citizens. The Cali Cronies in govt scream about how Repub's are holding down the poor folks and middle class yet they have one of the highest rates of homelessness per 100,000 people. The strictest guns laws in the country yet are one of the most crime laden states in the Union.

Cali is a shining example of why Liberal policies don't work, yet you Dem's are still blinded. What a dump of a place to live now, it used to be a gem.

French Economist Frederic Bastiat had it right back in 1850.

Doesn't matter. Minimum wage is a bribe for non-savvy low-wage voters.

Sort of like handing out crack in exchange for votes. People are willing to buy it even though its really bad for them.

You know, some folks on this board will read that and think:

"Why shouldn't the state raise grain?"

If they want to make life better, they would lower the cost of housing by eliminating unnecessary regulations and restrictions.
