Yes, they have budgeted for a new scoreboard in the same pcrice range as LU. Our people talked with LU about their scoreboard while there , cost etc. they plan to build it outside the $65M laid out for the remodel. They have budgeted the same amount of money as LU said cost them.
What I have been told as well. I did also hear that without the redo on the North Endzone (students-band) they don't know how/where to put it for next season. Anyone heard anything on that issue?
They have reserved the north corner of the east side grandstand for student and band. They are hoping to have the redo of the north end zone along with the, now almost budgeted, top of the line scoreboard added to phase 1 outside the 65M budget.
This is so very different from what I was told by someone who is very involved in the process. I hope your info is right, and apologize if I have given bad info.

I was told the same thing as Mr Big Blue. If they get the financial commitments, they'll do it. So, if you want the upgrades, bump up that donation. I know I am.

Thanks everyone for the info. Do any of you have insight on when the finalized plans will go public? Hard to believe we're under two months from the clams being demolished.

Wish I did. I was in such happy shock to hear that we're even still considering more additions, I didn't think to ask that. It's a great time to be a Monarch.

IF we have the money do we have to get approval to spend our own money for additional projects?

Id bump up the donations, but want guarantees it goes toward improving phase 1 in some way. They've still never reached out and asked the average donor to step up. Still no engraved bricks etc. Sell engraved bricks to be laid in the concourse, or a wall somewhere in the stadium for $1000 dollars each. I bet you sell a million dollars worth right there, which according to some, builds most of the end zone. Hoping the victory over VT opens some eyes and some wallets to make this happen.

I would guess the answer is yes. I know we had to get the state legislature to approve the additional $10 million even though we had it already raised and in hand. They also had to sign off on the field and scoreboard funding even though that was planned over the last 10 years as routine replacement/maintenance. I also know that folks at ODU were very worried those additions would NOT be approved and worked very hard to shepherd it carefully through the General Assembly. They did not breath a sigh of relief until it was actually signed off on.

Damn are we really living under the sword? If so a question has to be asked why? It doesn't make any sense esp when we didn't raise any tuition or have approached the state for add'l monies?

There's a reason pop tarts has detailed instructions on the box and a support line you can contact if you need more assistance. Someone did something that forced pop tarts to ask, how could we have prevented this? I'm sure that dumb requirement was written for the same reason.

Because the VT, UVA, WM and JMU grads in the legislature need to make sure they keep ODU in check and knowing its place. They cant have us getting too "uppity". I assume on paper all state schools do this, but all the other places seem to be able to spend money on whatever they want. Look at JMU for instance with a $90 million basketball arena on top of their swanky football stadium. Meanwhile ODU gets scrutinized for every dime.

LOL but the pop tarts customer service can't force the caller not to eat them if they have already bought the box. I am sure there might be some dumb reasoning behind it so wanted to see what it was if any of us knew.

Yes and more. ODU has very little support (very few alums) and the local reps from Norfolk and the Southside are not very supportive either. You may recall we had a Representative working for us but he is currently in prison. The other older, richer institutions have a vocal and supportive band of alums pulling for them. There is so much info out there that I cannot believe others on this MB do not know and I am reluctant to tell to much because I don't want to out people nor get in to a back and forth with folks who are clueless. I believe (and others in high places MAY agree) the the Cox Law was aimed squarely and ONLY at ODU. Our football stadium was not grandfathered but JMU new basketball arena was. On the other hand (I kept hoping someone else would chime in here) Broderick is the 1st ODU President to get 100% of the funding ODU wanted from the state for multiple years (I think now 4 but chime in if you know). Broderick is also the real reason we have football not Runte who was clueless (never at a school that had football) but he convinced her. Despite the fact that many believed the odds were overwhelmingly against us (think VT vs ODU game as a comparison for odds) Broderick did get the state to approve the extra $10 million plus the new field and the scoreboard for the new stadium. I (and someone else on here) unknowingly almost blew that by noting the request before it was officially approved. I was admonished that that leak might have resulted in it being killed. I pulled down my post and it passed and the folks in the Admin got to breath for the 1st time in 3 weeks. There has to many of you on here much better plugged in than I am as a low ODAF contributor and retired school teacher so please share what you can. I salute those who finally put out the truth on WS and who wanted to retain Wilder (feel free to add what was also happening with JJ). Also need someone to fill in folks on the MB about how WS's job is perceived by the Admin. and how well he is doing it. A lot of other stuff that is being commented on, on our MB is based on the assumed "Facts" but are way off the mark and that is just on some of the stuff I am aware of. Okay, got to babysit a grand so I will stop my rant and sign off. From my youthful days "Peace" to the angry folks on this board and this was also sent in peace. I am pretty sure all of the above is accurate and most can probably be easily verified. I will now return to my normal retired life of babysitting a grand at 1:00 and a big high school football game tonight.

Thanks for all you share and do. Unfortunately some Alum/fans aren't plugged into HR politics or for that matter State of VA politics to have an idea why is that we are suffering to get something passed that some other institutions in the state are having no problem with. I am not trying to place blame on the Admin or anything because there will be a whole lot that happens in the background that most of the fans or donors will ever know and we are thankful for the info shared in here. One thing is for sure from what i heard we need more representation in the house and how do we make it happen is a big question.

Instead, I got an email asking for a donation after the big win
Hope that works for some. I can see why they did it... but to me it looks a little desperate for money.

I dont think its being desperate. Its just taking advantage of the circumstances. But if I was ODAF. I would have sent out images of the new stadium, scoreboard, completed endzone after that win and then you might have something.
Fans and alum are tired of blindly giving without seeing any vision or projects we are donating to.
