Was thinking this morning how I am happy that I am married and don't have to worry about being out on the market anymore (been married for 12 years).

One of the trends I have noticed in a lot of these allegations is that a lot of the claims being made are instances involving older men and younger women. I have to think a generational gap in how the sexes communicate and interact is at play here in a lot of these allegations. I am 45 years old. I am almost petrified to even say hello to the younger women at the gym or in the office anymore. What if they take it the wrong way and tell someone that I was coming on to them (despite the fact that I wasn't)?

Matt Lauer could be guilty as hell--- IDK the man. But in my mind, I have to question if the man (and all the others of late) are getting any sort of due process here in the court of common opinion (and in some instances the work place).

No doubt. I don't know how a single person is supposed to mate these days. Meet a woman and negotiate a contract?

Well the reality is that politics and media and entertainment are now having to play by the rules corporate America has played by for the last 30 years, with the additional problem that their allegations are public.

I think Clifton has a point in that the Millenial women are more easily offended. I remember one California Congresswoman scoffing at the snowflakes saying, we would just slap the guy if he was inappropriate. There are a lot of passive-aggressive behavior patterns. Instead of being assertive, they just suddenly blurt it all out. Are younger people avoiding conflict instead of learning how to deal with it? Kind of gets back to the bubbles people live in, only hanging around like minded people and not listening to those who think differently.

This is not to say that what many politicians, media and entertainment people have done isn't outrageous. It is. But some of the allegations coming out are trivial. And there seems to be no due process.

People at my work have chuckled at me for years because I refuse to meet with a woman work colleague without either another person in the room, in a glass walled conference room, or with the door open.

I was burned a while ago with a false allegation. Thankfully it was pretty quickly shown to be false and the accuser was put on a PIP, then left on her own.

Don't take the chance, men. Tread lightly especially in the workplace. Not a joke.

Many years back I had a female peer complain to me that I was too "handsy." I had touched her and other women on the arm or shoulder. Now what she did was come directly to me in private and say that. I apologized for offending her and tried to be more cognizant. Some time later in a meeting she put a hand on my thigh (something I had never ever done). I just ignored it and DIDN'T touch back. You have to be careful.

RE: Matt Lauer Fired From NBC For Inappropriate Sexual Misconduct
At another place, we had a dress code. Minis had come back and we had some women who had no business in minis wearing them. The owner established a rule that dresses could be no more than "X" (think it was 4) inches above the knee. I had a really attractive employee wearing one much shorter. I didn't want to get in trouble for not enforcing the rule, but I wasn't about to talk to her directly. So I had another female employee go tell her.

The woman has to have responsibility to at least voice her displeasure. I don't care to what level of inappropriateness it escalates to... if the man doesn't know the woman disapproves, you can certainly call him a pervert, but not a criminal harrasser or assaulter. Some of these instances it escalated to the point of walking around the phucking office naked. I know Charlie Rose didn't just take his pants off out of the blue one day. You don't rise to that position of authority without being able to assess and work within the norms of your environment. The guy could obviously control himself. It got to that point because he pushed the envelope a little bit more and more each day with no sign of disapproval and it eventually became the norm of the enviroment. Obviously, he is a sick man, but those women share the responsibility of creating that environment where he could practice his sickness in the open.

The handsy thing is also generational IMHO. I can remember the older guys when I first got into the work place 25 years ago. They would also pat you on the back, put their arm around you, massage shoulders, give hugs, or even how they would crowd what people today refer to as "your personal space".... and this wasn't just to members of the opposite sex, this was just how it was done.

Even 5-7 years ago, the VP of my department was the type of lady who would always give hugs to everyone. There was nothing sexual about it, she was just one of those grandmotherly, nurturing types. Sadly, this sort of behavior will not be tolerated anymore-- especially if it is a male on female situation.

My shipping company I used run was based out of a small town right by Greenville and ECU. I had truck drivers and mechanics and every other kind that was more than likely to let a few inappropriate comments loose or carry on in behavior that could potentially lead to a harassment claim. In order to lessen the likelihood that a female employee (of which we only ever had two) would take offense or file a complaint, we only hired Hooter's girls since their tolerance for inappropriate comments and or behavior was a bit higher.

NBC knew the other stories were about to drop and decided to can him before they did. Like Conyers, there had been rumors and talk about Lauer for years but no one did anything about it.

Quote:The speed at which Today Show host Matt Lauer was fired was stunning—not only because of his long tenure at NBC, but because of his status as one of the network’s most prominent faces.

But behind the scenes, NBC officials were apparently worried about a looming bombshell about the anchor that would have caused a public relations disaster and decided to act proactively. Two reporters at Variety confirmed they had been working on a story about sexual harassment allegations against Lauer for more than two months. And Brian Stelter of CNN’s Reliable Sources says The New York Times was nearing publication on one as well. NBC management was reportedly aware that both stories were close to being published.

The Variety reporters say their research revealed multiple victims.
