Easy 20 point win today. Abby Rendle didn't even play after the first period.

I only caught the tail end of this one but announcers made it sound like we could have played better

Definitely. Keep in mind, though, that the lineups out there for most of the game did not include Rendle (played only 5 minutes) and Boggs (played only 8 minutes although she did have foul trouble and she did play some in the fourth quarter).
Don't know if Rendle was feeling bad, if Swanson was just giving her the night off, or if there was some behind-the-scenes issue. Probably not the third thing because, if so, Abby probably would not have started the game.

Third consecutive win in past three years over ODU...convincing 75-59 belting of once=mighty ODU
women's basketball.
Abby Rendle hit nine of ten shots to lead the way. Team played aggressive defense and won convincingly despite making just 2 of 17 three point attempts.
This W&M team will challenge for CAA title.

Something not mentioned was that Rendle broke Elena Della Donna's CAA record for blocks

Yes, a great game for Abby in general and also specifically because of the blocks record. Congratulations Abby!!

Lots of folks from the crowd of almost 3000 stayed around and supported the ladies loudly...always feels good to beat ODU (and for a third consecutive season for the women).

Yeah, even if the, always well written, R-TD ( ) said the win made W&M 1-9.
Always well written....

Yes, although I dropped the RTD at least ten years ago, I can still show you literally dozens of emails where I wrote to them correcting them on something or other (many times about errors about their reportage of the Tribe). One year it was so bad that I wrote a letter to the editor castigating them for their lack of coverage of the Tribe during one year where we were playing very well. They actually published the letter and Jimmye himself sent me a thank you note and a Tribe hat.
So, incompetency and tunnel vision at the RTD is nothing new. I don't miss it.

Both the men's and women's game have the same attendance, 2880. I think they just said everyone at the men's game was at the women's game, the actual crowd was far less than 3k.

Some of the R-TD writers are actually pretty good but given our small demographic we won't get their best efforts.
I totally gave up on their sports coverage when Lang Campbell failed to win the Dudley award after the 2004 season. After all, all he did was win the NATIONAL 2004 Walter Payton Award.
I looked at the voting and some yahoo, I think from the Charlottesville area, did not even include Campbell on the ballot. You promote the heck out of the award and then select voters who obviously don't buy into the criteria. In this case the writer thought that no FCS player warranted any votes. I will never forgive Bill Millsaps.
The Dudley should be named the award for the best player from a school with a large alumni base in the Richmond area.
If they can't track of football, we can't expect them to keep track of WBB.

UGH! Ugly, ugly loss, at home, to Norfolk State today. The team looked totally out of sorts and, frankly, this looked like more of a "shake off the rust" game than the ODU game did a couple of days ago (I can only assume that the team got up for playing ODU and thereby had even more of an opposite reaction today against NSU). Best thing that I can say is that, hopefully at least, they got a bad game out of their system and that they did it before conference play.
Shake it off, ladies -- be ready for the next one!

What time was the tip? I was just assuming it was at 7 and missed the whole thing.

I think it’s more of W&M running into a buzzsaw. NSU plays lockdown defense (they just held a pretty good Campbell team to 27 points), which made it hard for the tribe to establish any sustained rythym. They also have a 6’2 small forward that can do damage in the paint but can also drain 3’s with ease, very much a matchup nightmare for any team. Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition for playing a smart and well disciplined game

I agree with the last post. NSU is a pretty good team. They also have wins against VCU, Towson, and close losses to ECU (we won in overtime), and High Point. When you look at the box score, the big difference was that three point shooters (Garner and Pollard) were a combined 3-20 and 2-10 from 3 point land. We gave up too many rebounds and points to a team that doesn't score much. Better defense wins that game most days

We have a very small team. The starting line-up is 5'7'',5'8",5'9",5'10" and 6'4". and the top reserve Nari Garner is 5'7". NSU is a big physical team. All but one of their starters are 5'10" or taller. W&M has a hard time scoring against a set defense. We score most of our points on transition or steals. I agree that the difference in the game was the 3 point shooters. NSU was 54% from three(7 for 13) with #21 making 3 of 5(was a 33% shooter from three) and # 2 making 2 of 2(was a 10% shooter from three).

RE: Women's Basketball 2017-2018
Good points made by the two previous posts (oops, now a third post is in there while I was writing this). However, it wasn't just great defense by NSU. The Tribe missed a bunch of easy shots and Abby Rendle (5-15 iirc) had a very poor shooting day, missing shots she usually makes. I think they just took too long to take it seriously and get it going. They had been spoiled by some good 4th period comebacks and probably assumed that they could/would do it again (which they actually did, forcing overtime). NSU was deadly from three, and also deadly from the FT line (they went 7-8 in OT after going only 12-22 during regulation).
Also, I hesitate to bring this up for fear of incurring the wrath of Rocco, but the officiating was absolutely atrocious. NSU shot 22 foul shots in regulation and the Tribe shot only 12. Bianca Boggs, the Tribe's hottest player, spent significant minutes on the bench in foul trouble. It was obvious that the officiating was affecting how Rendle played defense late in the game. At one point, the announcers (admittedly W&M people but, hey, I have eyes too and I can confirm what they said) said that "W&M gets mauled at one end with no foul and then they call a ticky-tack foul on the other end". It was exactly that way. I won't even call it inconsistent because it was very consistently called -- against W&M. The Tribe coaches appeared to agree with this assessment. Worse, it looked like only one official had it in for the Tribe - but it only takes one. Anyone who disputes my take on the officiating can go review the game tape.

I think going forward, entering conference play, the Tribe have very good pieces. The question will be be back up point guard and center positions. We have a very solid stating five, but what kind of contribution will we get from the bench. Garner can knock down the three at the 2 position, Gaumont can give solid mins at the 4, but what happens if Abby or Jenna are troubled with fouls....someone needs to step up at those positions

I think Underwood has shown well as the backup point guard. She doesn't score much but she can handle the ball.
