Women's Basketball 2017-2018 - Zorch - 10-20-2017 07:38 AM

CAA Preseason Poll lists the Tribe as projected to finish third. I disagree.

You heard it here first: William and Mary will finish first this year in Women's Basketball ! Abby Rendle and Bianca Boggs are going to have breakout years.

Wait until you see a couple of the frosh

Is this their highest pre-season conference ranking ever?

And their best new player, a transfer from George Washington, can't play this year.

They did lose most of scoring via graduation, so it will be interesting to see who will pick up the scoring duty. Coach Swenson has been a solid recruiter, so the team should compete.

True, they lost scoring with Tremba and Massaquel, but we have a legit 4* recruit and some others who will step up or step in right away. Cox is going to be fun to watch for four years.

Coach Swanson.

"Swenson" is a dirty word around here.

My mistake. But let it go of Chucky. He's been gone for while now.

I believe that an article I saw on either the W&M site or the CAA site said that, yes, it was their highest preseason ranking ever.

Women's Basketball 2017-2018 - Tribeheart - 11-15-2017 01:00 AM

Team moved to 2-0 with their 57-47 win over Fairfield. Only gave up 17 points in the 2nd half. Men could take a lesson.

Big game Friday night as they travel to St. John's (WNIT 3rd round last year at 22-12) and try to avenge their opening loss last year, in a 7pm game on ESPN3. Go Tribe!

When I read this, I immediately went and looked to see if it was Harper Birdsong. She was an absolute stud in high school. Really smooth. That's an exciting get for the program.

Lost to St. Johns by 11. Got into a deep hole and couldn't rally

Yeah the 3Q really got away from us. St John's wasn't missing from 3 either.

Actually, the Tribe had a really good rally. Were down by 16 entering the fourth period but cut the lead all the way down to 4 with 2 minutes left. Unfortunately, St. John's hit a trey out of a timeout, we had a turnover, they sank two free throws, and it turns out that they scored the last 7 points of the game to inflate the score back up to 11.

W&M missed three layups during their fourth quarter run which would have really made a big difference. But we showed a lot of heart and a lot of spirit during the rally and there will be much good that we can take away from the loss.

Women's Basketball 2017-2018 - Tribal - 11-18-2017 12:47 PM

Okay, successful rally...they didn't rally for the win. I'll try to elaborate in the future.

It appears freshman guard Tyra Cox has been granted a medical release from the Tribe and will transfer with 4 years of eligibility.

There must be more to that story but I guess we won't get any details on the board.

She may not transfer to a CAA school.

She was the 4*, McDonald's All-American late commit. Strange saga all around. Good luck to her going forward. I hope the injury isn't too serious.
