Big Ten Swaps Places With CUSA In Heart of Dallas Bowl
The Big Ten will move from the Armed Forces Bowl in Ft Worth to the Heart of Dallas Bowl---and CUSA will move out of the Heart of Dallas Bowl to the Armed Forces Bowl to face Army (if Army qualifies). While it has no affect on us this year, the move may potentially be signaling the possible future of Heart of Dallas Bowl and the Armed Forces Bowl as P5 vs G5 bowls may be ending....or, it may mean there is no interest within the Big10 to play CUSA schools there---or it may mean nothing other than they dont want to play Army...

Yes, they are way better. While our bowls suck big time, at least we play other power conferences every year in the Birmingham and Military bowls and every other year in the St Pete and Armed Forces bowls. This is light years better than the G4 conferences. The Sun Belt, MAC, and now CUSA have no tie ins to any bowls with the SEC, ACC, B10, Pac, or B12.

Our bowl line-up looks pretty decent. It'd be nice to experience them in real life one day...

Yes our bowls are better. We've played in the Fiesta and Peach Bowls over the last 4 years. Holler back when CUSA can say that.

Like I said, out bowls suck big time, but they are way better than the Sun Belt's, CUSA, and MAC's. We have 4 bowls with Power conference tie ins. They have zero. The MWC has one, I believe. Basically, every bowl that has a so called P5 tie in belongs to AAC. I like playing, for example, South Carolina in the Birmingham bowl.

The concern is these bowls (HOD and Armed Forces) represent 2 G5 vs P5 bowls. Furthermore, these are 2 bowls we have an excellent chance of picking up as full ties in the next bowl cycle. They aren't nearly as attractive to us if they aren't going to have P5 opponents. We can have any G5 vs G5 bowl we want. Upgrading our bowl line up is all about increasing our opportunities to play post season games vs the P5. I could care less if we end up with new G5 vs G5 bowls.

When the AAC negotiated these bowls, they were in the worst position possible, with the implosion of the Big East and the AAC brand new. Yet, still got 4 semi tie ins to P5 bowls.
I am actually bullish on the AAC improving the bowl lineup next go around. It is one thing the AAC can actually somewhat control, and I see a moderate improvement. Maybe the Liberty comes back into play part time, or some other mid tier bowl. We keep bowls such as the Military and Birmingham and add a couple others.

Im optimistic as well. That said, if the Big10 and Big 12 decide to play one another in Dallas rather than send one entry to Ft Worth and one to Dallas---thats TWO less opportunities to pick up P5 post season opponents.
That said, I think the Big10 move certainly tends to support the theory that I have had for a while that both the Big12 and Big10 would prefer the AAC over CUSA as their opponent in these bowls. I think we will almost certainly see a Big10 vs AAC bowl this go around and think the long time relationship between Delany and Aresco will be a big part of the reason why it will occur.

RE: Big Ten Swaps Places With CUSA In Heart of Dallas Bowl
I hope we get a bowl upgrade in the next round of negotiations. This is why I think its so important to at least look at the ol Western expansion if possible. BYU/Boise, etc. This may be enough to help us get better bowls.
The Big East bowls weren't anything to write home about but the Sun Bowl, Car Care Bowl, and Belk bowl were at least decent. Of course they were all fine in light of the winner of the conference got the auto bid to a major bowl. That is what we really need. The winner of the AAC to get an auto bid to a NY6 bowl. If we had that and more money this would be a great conference to be in. Guess we'll see what happens in the next few years. For now all we can do is be as good as possible, build program equity and hope for the best.

I think this could also be accomplished by an alliance as well with Army and BYU. Sign them up to play 4 games versus the league a year rotating every 3 years and include them in the bowl lineup sort of like Notre Dame in the ACC. I think a lineup of the American + Army and BYU would really be attractive to bowls. Not to mention you help resolve some of the OOC stuff since you have 1 game locked in for 2 of the 3 year cycle. I think the league needs to be creative in its approach. I do believe the American will snag all P5 matchups on the eastern side of the U.S. with the MWC keeping the PAC12 tie. If the league could land 1 bowl vs the SEC, ACC, B10 and BIG12 to have 4 annual games that would be solid. Should try to make it some kind of pool so each of those leagues rotates maybe a top5 team to the bowl each year or at least in years we don't get the access. Lots of creative ways to improve I think.

Excluding the NY6, in 2014 we played 4 bowls vs P5, in 2015, we played 3 bowls vs P5, and last year, we played 2 bowls vs P5.
That's not a positive trend, and personally, I don't see much difference between playing say the #2 MAC team and the #11 SEC team in a toilet bowl like Birmingham.
Our bowl lineup is purely a G5 lineup, and it is IMO atrocious. Because it is a little better than C-USA's brings me no solace.
