Just not seeing real favorable treatment as much as the concern there will be.
The way Bobby Wilder said Derek is working out with his TEAMMATES and preparing for spring practice leads me to believe he is staying at ODU.
Exactly and to me as someone who puts money in ODU's pocket, I take exception to this.

THis got me thinking. How much different is this than the Baker Mayfield arrest? Both tried to elude cops. I guess the big difference was that Wilder was on a motorcycle while Baker was on foot?
I understand the motorcycle was a bigger threat and could have injured other people, but I wonder what the Oklahoma fans thought should happen to Baker?

Is anything Oklahoma does in reaction to player arrests a good comparison for ODU? They let Joe Mixon suit up after breaking bones in a woman's face.

I mean fan reaction. Like, did the fans want him gone?

Absolutely not. But he was also already a star at that point. If Wilder was reigning CUSA defensive player of the year, I would imagine the discussion would be completely different.
Whatever the decision is on Derek, I just hope it is consistent with how past players were treated.

Furthermore, being the coaches son probably works against him.

works against him? If his name was Barry Stinkard would he still be with the team?

Very important point. Based on the dismissals we have had since the program's resurrection, there is a precedent set. We hold our guys to a standard. We cannot compromise on that standard, or why have the standard? What is the point of anything if we're not principled and committed to our standards?

Agreed - absolutely no favoritism. But I wonder if Bobby bought his son a motorcycle. Incredibly poor judgment if you ask me. No way I’m buying my teenage son a motorcycle or letting him even ride one. Risk isn’t worth the reward. Someone at that age is not ready for that level of responsibility/temptation.

You think we would have a 22 page thread and local news following the story if it was anyone else?

RE: Derek Wilder Suspended
Since Wilder only recently pled, my guess is Dad is helping him find a spot at another school. Once that's firmed up, BW will announce his sons' transfer as opposed to being kicked off the team. Call it a "soft landing".

You’re kidding right? The local news has covered every story about ODU football players breaking the law. The message board having 22 pages about Derek Wilder means nothing to his chances of remaining with the team.

A 10 second burb is a little different than live coverage on the courthouse steps. People care because of who he is.

Do yall think Jimmye Laycock would allow him to play over at W&M? W&M comes to mind because his brother and mother live over there right now.

Didn’t Laycock talk trash about the Wilders and say he was a dirty coach or coached dirty players or something

This makes a lot of sense. Pilots are always trying for a soft landing too. I just think he should not be able to get a motorcycle license until he is about 60.
