1) Real sellouts with the stadium actually full
2) Extra news coverage
3) Recruits seeing they can stay at home and play against "big name" teams
4) Opportunity for an upset that is much harder to pull off on the road, helping with recruiting battles
5) Higher likelihood of TV coverage
etc, etc.
I sure hope Duke doesn't call and want to play basketball at the Ted any time soon, because apparently it won't matter if we don't beat them!
6) empty stadium by halftime, if the game isn't competitive.
Do you REALLY think losing to power 5 teams at home is going to help us win
recruiting battles? Do you REALLY think extra news coverage of us losing to these teams is going to do anything for us? We got plenty of mentions on ESPN when we lost 80-20 to UNC, in what way did that help us?
Unless all these fans are going to stay for the whole game, it doesn't matter if their butt is in the seat at the beginning of the game.
I assume that you are a proponent for participation medals
Your original comment still makes no sense, nor does this one. Don't really get the participation trophy comment either but whatever.
If you don't think having power five schools play at ODU is a good thing, you aren't worth responding to anymore.
Playing power 5 and losing to them at home does not impress recruits or put butts in the stands. But go ahead and believe that it does

RE: New Women's B-ball Coach
Can't say I'm impressed with the rumored candidates for the WBB HC position. A quick look at their overall coaching won-loss totals doesn't inspire greatness. The JU coach has the best overall record, but as someone stated earlier she's got a contract to 2020 so who knows what the buyout is.
Towson? Seriously? We're looking at Towson for our next coach? Seriously? Can't get a P5 assistant to nibble a chance to make a name?
This program has hit the very bottom. Sad.

Please find me a recruit that would rather play Albany instead of VT or UNC at home. This is so funny I think you must be pulling my leg because you can't possibly believe that.

I was thinking this earlier today, these potential hires dont inspire much confidence in the future of the program. Salary is definitely a limiting factor as we arent on par with other high mid majors. Honestly, I dont know if we are gonna find that gem who could shine for a zirconia salary. Everyone one of our sports coaches seem underpaid by comparison and while i know we are spending alot on sports infrastructure it doesnt truly inspire someone to come here and fix a wrecked program for a pittance.

We got our last coach from Elon, so I don't see how Towson is any worse. Though we see how that worked out too. We're Old Dominion, a legend in women's hoops, not long ago we would be able to take a head coach from some P5 programs, now we can't even get an assistant? Crazy.

Smh. I've lost confidence in ODU "leadership." Invest in people first, and shiny objects later. If ODU doesn't pay people, no beautiful facility will lead teams to NCAAs and high-profile bowl games. But as long as fans go along with the Broderick and Wood show, nothing will change; mediocrity is the new normal.

Seriously doubt Broderick and Selig are interested in settling for mediocrity after spending so much money for shiny toys. Patience grasshoppa

RE: New Women's B-ball Coach
Barefoot was a marginal risk to hire. She certainly had the dynamic personality and recruiting chops. Just not the x's and o's. Didn't work out, but could have been a spectacular success. Some times you win, sometimes you lose.
In my opinion there is no reason to get down on Selig. Took a chance, it didn't work, move on.

I believe we would only lose APR points if their GPA is lower than 2.6

Again, don't know how inside these guys are (their bio location tells me they probably have sources with Yolett's current program but not any at ODU). However, they have posted a video where they discuss names being linked to the opening. I won't be able to watch until later. But if someone could verify if they're dropping new names, that would be cool;

they talked about Nikki McCray from S.Carolina interviewing and i think i heard an asst coach from Michigan State name brought up. Talked about the money issue but that this was a head coach job that was a good get.

Thanks, ODUGuy! Nikki would be a home run hire, IMO. Hope it happens.

Would be unfortunate if true. She was the candidate I was most hoping for out of all the names that have been mentioned so far.

@Ladyswish: Furman's Jackie Carson, Pitt associate HC Kathy McDonnell-Miller, SC asst. Nikki McCray-Penson in mix for ODU job, sources say.
Think we'll be hearing something soon.
